Title: Will HD sell you a LiveWire? Not where I live!
Post by: heroto on March 27, 2019, 07:13:08 AM
I live in Richmond, VA, a moderately affluent medium sized city. Like everywhere else in the US, we have a bunch of HD dealerships. And DC fast charging stations are sprouting, to take advantage of the fast charging that HD will offer that the o/w more advanced Zero SR/F does not.
But my local dealer informs me that HD will not be selling the LiveWire here.
Dang.
Hype is BS.

Look like the nearest is Fredericksburg to Richmond.

I live in North Carolina and only 5 of the 26 H-D dealers in the state will be selling the LiveWire.

That may tell you something about what those dealers believe their customers will want to buy.   ::)

I'm sure they will add or delete dealers depending on sales and demand.

Do the dealers decide themselves if they want to selle it or not? Or does H-D H/Q decide who is entitled to and who not? Because selling and maintaining the LW also means special training, special tools etc... Which cannot we widespread as long as sales remain in the early stages.

So I called my nearest dealer and asked if they were going to sale them.  They said they hadn't made up their minds yet and would make a decision by next month.  So I guess it's up to the dealer.

I'm guessing part of the reason for the exorbitant cost of the LiveWire is to cover THIS expense:

You are assuming that the $10-15K difference between the cost of building the LiveWire and its MSRP will be mostly going to the selling dealer to reimburse them for installing fast charging stations their shop - or will that be H-D's profit on each sale?  ???

My money is on H-D and its stockholders - which could use a little good news this year.   ::)

There are two HD dealers near me.  One in Carson City and the other right here in Reno. I assume one of these two shops will have the LW.

If every HD shop sold the LW and had a charge station that would make a big difference, IMO.

I assume the HD shops that do not sell the LW will also not service them.

The HD shop here in Reno will sell the Livewire.  The HD shop ~20 miles south of Reno will NOT sell the livewire (according to a salesman at the Reno Harley shop).

Reno HD will have two charge stations, one for the LW  DC and a J1772 plug. The J1772 can be used by anybody there, regardless of brand.
