Hi all,
Did anyone picked 12V somewhere on the energica to connect an accessory?
I bought an oiler to lubricate my chain and it needs a 12V supply
Allready tried to pick the plate light supply but it seems that the bike detects that something is wrong and cut the alimentation of the plate light...
If someone have the electric map of the bike it would be great help :)

Try the USB plug. That is what I have used.

Two problems with the usb :
- it's 5V if i remember well
- the problem is also thatthis port is ''on'' while the bike is charging ^^
This system should only be activated while riding ^^

My bad, you were talking about the connectors behind the usb port, i did try and that works fine :)
Still to link it to the on/off of the bike, i'll probably try to fit a transistor linked to front leds.
But for now it'll do the job, hope i won't forget to switch it off while charging yo avoid an oil lake in my garage ^^

Actually you want the USB outlet to be hot while charging so you can charge your phone while you are charging your bike!

You can take the supply on the fuse box under the fairing.

I hope you're not trying to use the frame for a ground. I noticed E-bikes use floating grounds, even for 12 volts. I cannot speak for other bikes, but in my Zeros, I use the negative side of the headlamp for a ground connection--which is NOT connected to the frame.

Here’s my solution. I have an Eva 107 ‘19. Search amazon for an OBDll 12V adapter. You can use the switched 12V power from the OBDll port on the right side of the bike for accessories and you don’t need to install a relay. I’ve got a dash cam running off of that. You’ll just use that part from amazon as a plug adapter. It works fine if you have a low draw device. Let me know if it works for your situation.

The USB adapter uses the 2 pin connector under the front fairing, protected by fuse 6 in the fuse holder.
Please note that the gauge of the wires on the OBD2 port are not rated for high current draw. The circuit is fused (10A) but that circuit also has other loads.

I just noticed that the horn does NOT work while charging. I wonder if the horn switch is on the low side, as it is on many (if not most) bikes. That would most likely mean the hot side of the horn can be used for a 12 volt supply that will be off while charging.
But I have not yet checked on my bike to see how the horn is wired. My Moto Guzzi Stelvio switches on the hot side, so perhaps that is the way it is on other Italian bikes, which means it will not be able to be used. But is worth checking if the horn connections are easy to get to.

Forget about using the horn wire. I just checked. One side is grounded which proves the opposite (hot) side of the horn is switched. I guess that is the Italian way as all my other bikes (other than the Stelvio) switch the horn from the low (negative) side.

I found a good place to get the 12.6 VDC from. The red wire under the USB connector is 12.6 VDC and is good for up to ten amps with the stock fuse<F6>. It is shared with the heated grips that I do not have. The connectors are very easy to remove from the USB.
But this will stay active while charging, which is what I want anyway.
I think I will also put in a louder dual horn, using the stock horn wires for a horn relay coil and use the USB 12 vdc input to run the louder horn. I just need to find a place to mount them, as I did on my Zeros.

I use a mini fuse tap (see picture) to get power from the fuse box. The fuse tap has a fuse for the power you are taking out, so it will not short your bikes fuse if there is an unintentional ground. You plug the existing bike fuse into the tap and plug the tap into the fuse box. It works great.

I have many of those thingies here. Perhaps they clear the seat on your Ego, but they won't on my SS9. At least it doesn't look like they will, I never even tried because the fuses are just below the seat and looks like there is no clearance for one of the fuse taps.

I wanted to wire in a plug for a heated jacket liner. Sounds like the red wire under the USB plug is the way to go... then run a power line back towards the seat area. We are within 10 amps (6-7 amps).

Yep, and I am also going to use that to run a horn. I will be working on that in a few minutes. I am going to mount the dual horns on the headlight bracket. One on each side. I have blue horns on order, but I will use red for now. The old horn wires will be used to active the relay coil.

I have a 2020 Ego. The fuse box is on the right side of the bike under the carbon fiber side panel. So I can at least recommend the adapter for other Egos.

Yep. I have all my 12 volt work completed now anyway, by tapping into the 12 VDC power that goes to the 5VDC USB. That should be good for up to ten amps.
My SS9 fuse box is right in front of the CCS socket and with the seat down, there is probably only a few tenths of an inch clearance.

With all this talk about finding 12 volts here or there.
The device that converts Main Battery voltage to the 12 volts. What is IT's limit on amps total? People want to add accessories, at what point do we overload the 12 volt bus?

Check the current. It can be checked right on the fuse and then see how much you can add to it. Use one of these thingies (https://www.harborfreight.com/30-amp-automotive-fuse-circuit-tester-67724.html) for the size blade fuse you have. The newer Zeros (2016+?) have some power to spare. They beefed up the DC2DCC around then.

Yes, stay below the fuse value. The fuses are designed to blow below the current capacity of the wires to it. Sometimes just under, sometimes a lot under, depending on what circuits they are protecting by the fuse.
BTW, all the 5VDC USB outlets are fed with 12VDC underneath them. The stuff in the USB outlet itself lowers the voltage to 5VDC. IMO, this is really extra stupid for many reasons. Even my new 2022 RV came with dozens of USBs not even one 12- Volt outlet. So how do you run a 12-volt GPS?
If they had 12V outlets, then you can buy a 5VDC plugin USB adapter for less than $1.50 US each. Then you have your choice of 12V or 5VDC USB from each outlet. I removed every USB outlet in my RV and replaced every one of them with a 12-Volt outlet. So now I can use either.
The bottom of the USB outlet on the Energicas are fed with 12-Volts. Much more useful than the USB. If you convert USB to 12V then you lost most of the current capacity that the outlet is fed with.
I wish all vehicle manufacturers would STOP installing those useless USB outlets and put a 12V in its place. Those who want USB there can buy the adapter for $1.25 at a Dollar Store.

The frame is the ground reference for the 12v side of the bikes electrical system. You are correct the battery ground is floated.

From Energica:
Fuse 6 supplies power to the USB ports and the heated grips (if fitted). As the circuit has a 10A fuse installed it has enough power to share with other devices. You can either tap the wire coming out the back of the fused side of #6 or create a Y splitter at the USB connection under the dash. Please note that due to the gauge of wire used to the USB connector I would not draw more than 5A from that source.
Also if needed you can replace the 10A fuse in this circuit with a 15A to allow it to provide additional power. Please limit any circuit's current draw to ~80% of its rated protection.

For ground there is a threaded stud welded to the rear support of the inverter. If you remove the right tank fairing you should see it. There should already be a ground wire attached to this point, just terminate any ground wires here with a ring terminal.

Installed the heated gear lead off the 12 V supply. It works but the output is kind of weak. Better than nothing but not nearly as good as the juice coming off an ICE motorcycle battery being fed by a charging system under power.
Also created a Y off the usb line feeding a radar detector.
Having trouble posting pics. What do you do if the file size of the pic is too large. What are the tricks of the trade?

pard, resize the picture. there are websites that can do that for you, even your phone should be able to do that for you.
For the 12 volt. run a THICK cable to it, a heater is going to want some amps. Don't try to run that on some crappy 16 ga wire, you will have terrible line drop which will kill your heater capacity. Run a 12 Ga wire if you can. DC drops terribly over distance. If you can, turn it on and see what the actual voltage is AT the heater terminals. Bet it dropped a few volts !
