Title: FXS 6.5 only using front battery
Post by: flattetyre on January 31, 2019, 01:14:40 PM
Here is what I have discovered on my new 2017 FXS 6.5:

--front pack only is warm after charging / riding, rear is totally cold
--1kwh takes 30% battery capacity
--too much power limiting at speed, top speed of only low 70s MPH
--this all stays the same after switching batteries F to R and R to F

So, looks like I'm only running on one pack, even tho both packs are good. But why! Any suggestions?

Probably a bad connector. Take to dealer.

+1.  I'd suggest not doing anything that might even appear to void your warranty.

When it's fixed, you should notice a lot more acceleration above 50-60kmh after adding the 2nd battery.

Sounds like the Anderson connector on the bike. The packs have the same connector it’s just under a cover. These have two large lugs (+/-) and several small signal pins. The signal pins can be difficult to seat and could have been pushed back. This could tell the contactor not to close on that particular pack. This is the click you hear when charging begins. If both packs charge in one position but not the other that’s my guess. As others have stated, take it to the dealer.

Turns out one of the batteries is bad. Measures 68V.

Dealer took the bike back for repairs today and loaned me a FX 7.2. The front brake is terrible on the FX and it's noticeably harder to steer at speed, probably due to the heavier / larger diameter front wheel. The susp is also more plush.

No telling how long my bike will take to be fixed, but in the meantime the FX will be plenty of fun. I still wouldn't call it a wheelie machine but the bike is way faster with twice the power.

Great to hear that you got a quick diagnosis.  Hope they get it sorted for you soon, but the loaner should make it a lot easier to be patient.
