Title: Probably a stupid question but...brakes?

Ok, so I'm pulling apart a Znen 150T-E to turn into an electric scooter.  The wheel is pretty much mounted to the GY6 motor and I'll be putting a hub motor on the rear. (So already have to figure out a swing arm assembly for it.) The brake was also part of the motor/wheel amalgamation.  So...rear brake?  How do I accomplish that?  Does letting off the throttle make the hub motor act as it's own brake?  I'm completely new to all this and learning as I go.

Huh.  So googling Znen 150T-E gives me pictures of... electric scooters.  So I'm confused.  Don't you already have an electric scooter?  Anyway, with regards to brakes, yes, please make sure you have plenty of (conventional) friction braking available.  It's a safety thing.  Electric motors (especially A/C motors, but BLDC too maybe depending on the controller) *can* "regenerative brake", i.e. brake with the motor by putting electricity back into the battery but this effect only works *above a certain RPM*, it decreases in effectiveness as you slow, so expecting electric braking to be effective in traffic would be very very dangerous.
