Title: Where is the speedometer on a 2012 XU?

...I don't mean the numbers on the dashboard. I mean, how does the dashboard know how fast you're moving? There's no mechanical speedometer cable going into it; just a whole bunch of thin wires in a bundle. Where is the other end of the wires, that determines how fast the motorcycle is going?

Possibly related: on 2016 bike like my DSR the motor has a target magnet and corresponding sensor which relates its position to the MBB, and if I am remembering correctly, there is a software calculation for the gearing and tire size.

Is there a similar setup for the 2012?

I thought there was a small wheel rotation sensor on the front wheel of my dearly departed 2012 S.  ???  But it has been many years and many motorcycles since then, so my memory is likely faulty.  :(  And that poor bike is now gone.  :(

  Can you show me a picture of that sensor so I know what to look for? It's not on one of the wheels?

I did attempt a picture at that time when the previous motor (2016 IPM as stock) was apart (at the dealer) but was not able to get a clear rendition. I can't find the photos now. A sealed cover on the motor had to be removed to access it.

Wait, what? It's INSIDE the motor? I've been looking all over the place. Is that what the 3 screws on the back of the motor are covering up?

Maybe? I am hoping someone who remembers what the thread was will link where this was documented (with pictures)... and what model year it was for?
