I'm about to buy a 2018 Ego, but want to make sure it really can do ~80 mile or more at 70MPH. Anyone have real world data on this? Energica says 80-150 miles, some people on here are saying 60 miles...anyone know the real cruising distance? (Sorry for spamming the other subjects before starting this new one)

I can only speak to the Eva but I can't even get close to that. I MIGHT be able get 80 miles if averaging 40-45 MPH. I think the Ego can do better that that because you are in a much more aero position than you are on the Eva. There are a few Ego owners out there who can advise you better.

Well the Ego has a 11.7kWh battery. It runs at a higher voltage and has more weight and torque than Zero.
It's also geared and set up for 150 MPH top speed, so the downside is range
The only plus is the fairings and sport bike tuck. If you have access to the DC fast charging on most of your routes it's a pretty quick refill.
The one other thing Energica notes on their specs is the 1800 battery cycles till 80% capacity.
They use Lipo and not Li- ion batteries.

The Ego has a 13.8kWh battery, 11.7kWh usable. They don’t advertise battery space you can’t use, like some manufactures.
1,800 full 100% down to 0% cycles. 80 miles of range per go, that’s 144,000 miles. And you can CCS charge them every time and keep the warranty. Do half drains and slower charges, and I’m sure the pack will last much longer. But hell, who does 144,000 miles on an electric motorcycle, 100% to 0% drains every time, DCFCs every time, and complains about capacity loss of under 20%?

I have an Eva and I can get about 60 miles on a charge driving between 60 - 80 mph. If you can keep it to 65, I think 80 miles is possible, but I have not proven this for myself. Don't worry about the first 10% battery reading, it drops that much in the first 5 city miles, but settles down after that.

Interesting, I'm sure laying on the tank and maintaining a decent speed, with a fairing and not being a naked bike help...but 20+ extra miles help? I'm a little skeptical.

He will probably see your post and reply him self but Vodoo Chile Ridin the EE (A member here on the EMF) has a EGO and he mentioned this regarding the range of his bike:
"I did my first commute on the Ego today - FINALLY! Based on the remaining charge (35% after 52.8 miles mostly at 70 & 75 indicated) the current range is about 71 miles."

I'd like to say a few words of warning, based on my experience of running a Kia Soul EV for 18 months. I have also put over 22,000 miles on my Zero, but that is used mainly for commuting so doesn't really count. I think running a short range EV and using rapid chargers with the Soul EV is more relevant.
From what I've read, it sounds like the Ego will struggle to do 80 miles of mixed riding on a full charge and significantly less when cruising on the motorway. It's the kind of bike that wants to be ridden in a manner that will probably reduce that range to 60 miles at best. That's pretty similar to the motorway range my Soul EV had during the coldest days in winter here in the UK.
Unfortunately you'll never ride those sixty miles unless you're willing to take a lot of risk. That's because you'll want to get to the next charging point with at least a few miles spare. You need some contingency when planning a trip for lots of reasons, not least that estimating actual range is difficult due to all the different variables. Another reason is that rapid chargers are relatively few and far between, so you'll be lucky to find one within about 10-15 miles of your ideal stopping point.
We mustn't forget that you won't get a full charge at each rapid. Most rapids cut out before a full charge, or at least reduce the rate of charge so much at higher SoC levels that you're better unplugging and moving on before its full.
So let's say you plan a trip based on 50 miles between stops. On a fast bike like the Ego, you might be looking at having to stop every 45 minutes on a long trip in order to charge for 20 minutes. Not only that, but the 20 minutes turns into half an hour by the time you've slowed down, found the charger, plugged in, used the app or whatever and so on until you're back up to speed on the road you just left.
Then there's charging anxiety. You don't know if the rapid charger will be available until you roll up to it. It might be in use or even more frustratingly, the previous guy has finished and hasn't returned. Will the damn thing work when you do plug it in our will it not like charging at 20 kW? I've had all kinds of other problems like isolation errors and apps that are unreliable.
I would think very carefully about how you will use the Ego. If it's mostly for commuting and you can do the round trip on one charge, then fine. If you can charge at work then that's fantastic. However, if you plan to do any touring, then I'd avoid it like the plague. Trust me, you'll soon get sick of charging, just like I did with the Soul EV. So sick of it that I got rid of it 18 months into a two year lease. Range really does matter a lot if you plan to use the bike for anything more than commuting or a bit of fun for a couple of hours or so over the weekend. You might feel willing to stop for half an hour every hour or so, but will your mates feel the same if you're on a group ride? Also, the coffee is expensive at motorway service stations and they aren't pleasant places to hang out. In fact, most rapid charger locations are pretty horrible; hotels or motorway service areas. Very few town centres here in the UK, with the exception of Milton Keynes which is still just one big motorway service station...
A bike like the Ego needs at least 20 kWh of usable capacity. That would get you close to the kind of range most sports bikes have but even then you've got to spend 20 minutes at the pump instead of about two minutes to fill up with petrol. The Ego is also a very heavy beast and I can't imagine it handles anything like as well as a Fireblade. It probably won't be as reliable either and I hate to think what happens when something goes wrong with it...
One last point to bear in mind is that whatever you save in fuel and servicing costs will be a drop in the ocean compared to the depreciation on the bike. It's a lot of coin to splash out on any bike and its lack of range will mean it will devalue very quickly.
If none of that matters to you and you would just love to own one, then go for it because I'm sure it will still be an awesome bike.

Yes, that's true, with the possible exception of the Lightning LS-128. If I'm not mistaken it has a 20 kWh battery. Not easy to get hold of though...
I guess it'll still take a few years to get something like an Ego that will have a decent range and not weigh or cost too much.
I'll also admit that the allure of an electric vehicle is very strong. Having written my post, I found myself looking up the UK dealer and as luck would have it, I have an opportunity to go and see them on Saturday. I just have to remember to give them a ring tomorrow and arrange it. I'd love to test ride one and post a review here, as I've done in the past. I'd also love to test ride the 2018SR... Can I possibly do both in one day? That sounds like a fun way to spend a day off the leash. :-)
If there's any appetite for a review from yours truly on either bike, do please let me know. I'm still working on a plan to upgrade from my 2014DS. Buying one through my business is probably best way to make it happen.
I think our OP may have bought his Ego by now. We'd love to hear any news. Tell us you're over the moon and shoot me down in flames! :-)

I ended up going with a 14.4kWh Zero. :( I'm going to load it up with Diginows. Next best thing, 70-90 miles of real range, and 20-95% 1 hour charge. Roughly.

For what it's worth, I'm running around with a 2016 DSR with 13.0 + 3.3PT = 16.3kWh of battery, and with a Hollywood Electrics fairing on, I'm getting about 125-135 miles of highway range. So, the 14.4 with 3.5PT = 18kWh should get more like 150 miles per charge with enough aerodynamic work.

Don’t know if I’ll need more than 14.4kWh, especially with the heat dissipation issue. Taking it out to Skyline drive in two weekends, hoping it handles the heat better than my 2015SR did in the summer.

That's at 65-70mph; generally 5mph slower than Zero's advertised highway range/speed. I see that the DSR 14.4 is rated for 78 miles at 70mph; I know I can get 100 miles on a DSR 13.0 using a good windscreen, in fact that was my regular benchmark and still sticks in my brain as an easy math benchmark (1% per mile).
Regarding heat dissipation, I think it helps in a way to have a Power Tank so the current level from running at speed and charging fast is lower by 20% (125% battery capacity, reciprocal = 80%) for any given speed or charging current (not C-rate because that goes up in aggregate).
Also it helps to remove the onboard charger or create a thermal conduction gap between it and the bottom plate of the main battery.
BTW we're probably off-topic at this point.

Bringing it back on topic - the Ego does have active cooling for the battery and I believe the charging hardware, separately. Very smart design from what was described to me. One road trip advantage in the summer, vs Zeros. The real world range of them however...seems to be a very negative factor.

Snake oil? Now, I have criticisms of how they're discounting the bikes, and what customer experience could be like long-term, but I don't think they're faking anything.
What gave you this impression?

this post has no merit without elaborating as to why you say this. Also to get back on topic the only answer to the OP ive seen in this thread is roughly 71 miles HW range?

I have heard Brandon Miller claim that the Ego has a longer range / no range penalty if you know how to economize. Basically if you ride it smoothly and don’t overuse regen.
However, he is currently severely injured from an accident involving that bike, so my line of inquiry on that front is on hold.

This would seem to make sense, its heavier and has more power but a fairing. So if you use less power it should be closer to a zero in range.

Only kidding, but have you also driven the Energica?
Would love to know the main differences in the "power train" of both brands (meaning driveability, are they both smooth or not, did you noticed?).

As an EVA's Rider, I can give you some data (not much cause i have it for about 5 days now :) )
for commutin, I ride on highway / road / city with a sporty/Cruising riding type and i'm using about one percent per Km (always in sport mode)
That's about 10 kWh/100km for a road trip riding style
And about 13 kWh/100km on highway (at 120/130 Km/h)
for sure, while using 100% of available power it begins to fall drastically ^^ but that's the same for every vehicle.
