I tried to complete a California EV rebate application today and it wouldn't accept my information. Their computer said that my bike's VIN was not for a Zero S. :o So I called their office and spoke to a staff person who said that Zero had not provided their organization with 2018 VIN numbers and until they do I can't apply for the $900 rebate. He took my telephone number and told me that he would give me a call once their website was updated. Once that happens, I can reapply.
Another problem was that no motorcycle shops were listed in their list of EV sales dealerships, just auto dealerships. So when they ask you what dealership you bought your vehicle from, their list can't provide a M/C shop so it says "not found" and that section of the application would remain incomplete. Apparently, electric motorcycles are not getting a lot of respect in California. ::)
I sure hope I can get on the rebate bandwagon before all of those Tesla Model 3 owners get to the trough. Once that happens, their $8 million dollar rebate budget won't last long. :( The rebates are handed out on a 'first come, first served" basis, although it appears that low-income people might get pushed to the front of the line, if I am interpreting their website information correctly.

I am happy to report that the 2018 Zeros are now in the CA Rebate program's web site system. So now you can apply for their $900 electric motorcycle rebate and follow the 4 pages of bureaucratic instructions to complete your rebate application. ::) (Assuming that there is any money left in the pot after Tesla owners (who get a $7,500 rebate each) leave the trough. :'( )

When i applied for mine in August of 2016 the budget had already been exhausted. So I had to wait until California approved the new budget for the new year if they had one. They did, so I was sent my check once the new budget was approved.

And speaking of the federal EV tax credit, which apparently already doesn't apply to motorcycles, my newspaper today reported that the $7,500 EV car credit remains in the Senate version of the new tax bill, but the House version nixes it. >:( So now it will be up to the "conference committee" to decide whether you can take the credit next year or not. If not, as the article mentioned, a lot of people will likely decide that buying an EV car is just too expensive and go with IC, instead. >:( Stay tuned.
