hello guys,
i own the dsr 2017, but there is a metallic noise when accelerating from the stand, like in this video at 5:30

is this normal?
also when setting regen in custom to 100% the display only shows 3 of 4 bars.
i would like the full regen.
any ideas?

I think the sound is normal like a trail of tram that uses a lot of power.

I think it is too. My 2017 FXS did/does the same thing. It was more noticeable when it was new. I now have about 2,500 miles on the bike and the sound has diminished a lot. So I think the noise level reduces as the motor breaks in, assuming an electric motor does such a thing. Also try spraying some silicone on the drive belt. I believe that also helped on my bike.

Some noise like in the video is normal. If it becomes too much, check belt tension. Many new Zeros are delivered with tensions way too high. Adjust it to the lower end of Zeros recommendation.
Regen is limited for security/traction reasons. Some owners (like Terry) have made manual adjustments in the controller settings, but that is nothing I'd recommend to do regularly. For stronger regen you would also have to turn the brake lights on, as deceleration gets to strong.
Please also consider that more regen doesn't automatically mean more range. Coasting with 0% regen is more efficient. However, regen is still better than braking.

My 17 FXS made same noise and it was most noticeable accelerating from a stop even more noticeable at low speed corners corners were worst even embarrassing. Adjusting belt tension greatly improved
it, factory setting was to high to even show on my gates crikit gauge this was with 4 miles on the bike. Adjusting mine to the lower end of the setting made it better my belt was also badly out of alignment.
Just pushing the bike around was enuff to hear the belt rubbing against the rib of the rear sprocket, could actually see the edge of the belt binding on that lip and raising up on it.
After inspection of the belt it was replaced at no cost, had damage all along the side that was binding against that lip. With a new belt and properly aligned and correct tension still makes noise exactly like
in your video, just at 3000 miles it's almost completely quite now.

Also chiming in to say that resonance is due to belt tension. I would have a belt nearly loose enough to fall off in the morning (23degF) and later that same day (71degF) a belt that is too tight and making the noise. So I'm pretty sure temperature has this effect on belt shape and so sound also.

I'm with Shadow that it appears to be belt noise when it is tensioned upon startup. It must be the resonance you hear as the belt is tensioned and moves a little. I have a 2017 DSR and it does the same thing. I have noticed it will do it more in the rain at slower speeds when accelerating. There is also some noise from the motor controller that has some vibration/noise. The belt and the controller noise is what you are hearing. I have about 2700 miles on my DSR and most times I don't hear it as loud but other times I do and that is mostly at takoffs like yours or at slow speeds where I might be loading up or straining the belt while accelerating slightly in a parking lot.

(Previous link: It's the Autogefühl review of the Zero FX.) I don't know how they did it but that video is just perfect at what I hear when I'm hanging out at a charging station and I hear a Zero pull up somewhere out of sight. There's a bit of a sound when you accelerate and then at slower speeds that annoying whinge of an overtightened belt is absent as it should be silent unless raining or crusted with dirt. If you're coasting without any regen and there's a noise, something is wrong with your belt tension and/or the tires are still riding on chicken strips.
Some of us have called it the "wounded wookie" (Star Wars foley reference) for when you ride in the rain and the resonance kicks up a bit. That seems to be normal.
