The cold is obviously easier to deal with when wearing mitts (versus gloves). So today (just above freezing this morning), I went out to do my errands with the bike in eco (versus sport, which I'm otherwise always in). The other part of the equation is that mitts aren't very conducive to grabbing levers (whether clutch or front brake). So I wondered if the regenerative braking, along with the rear brake, might be enough for slowing down.
And it works just fine. Only once did I find myself with the mitted hand unconsciously hovering over the front brake lever -- which is a good thing, since in an emergency, I'd want the front brake in a millisecond.

I have found good high wattage (50 watts) heated grips keep hands warm down to 10 degrees above freezing with basic leather 5 finger racing gloves. Below that heated gloves like the Sedici Hotwired gloves from Cycle Gear (still 5 finger gloves) offer still good feel of levers and buttons, just not as good as racing gloves.

I still have my neoprene Urbano Tucano mitts and recall that they're more effective than heated grips or heated gloves, both of which I've had. I may use my mitts as weather guards / streamlining aids with some handguard bars to support them.
Hm, maybe neoprene would be a reasonably easy way to make a battery cozy, too...
