Phew! Now that that is out of the way, HELLO!!! I just started at ZERO and I am the new "Parts" person. I am not the best at the internet but I will poke around and see if I can be helpful/check out cool projects!

Awesome.
PLEASE make an online parts catalog that the general public can see.... Even if we cant order from it. Digital-Microfiche if you want, like other motorcycle manufacturer make.
I love Zero, but the nearest dealership is 6-hour drive. That means that order parts takes place over the phone.. and I cant see his screen.
I would much rather say part number xxx-xxxxxx than trying to describe it over the phone.

I dont think its that Zero "doesnt want us to know"... Its that they are a small company and its alot of work to keep part info updated and accurate every year. He said hes a parts guy, so I want him to know what the #1 issue people have with Zero parts is. The parts themselves are fine, they keep good stock, they ship to dealerships fast... but the #1 is figuring out what you need when the only thing you can do is call a person on the phone 250 miles away.

Hi Justin first off welcome to the forum.
Second you all should be proud of the products that Zero puts out. For a small company with a new (or newly mainstream) technology Zeros are one of the most interesting and all out ENJOYABLE bikes on the road (or dirt).
I'm genuinely excited to see whats new for 2017 and beyond.
Do brace yourself for some "emotional" comments from time to time which I believe comes from the high joy of the bikes when all is great and a crash/depression when things don't go as planed.
If you take a look around the forum you'll see Zero dominates the conversations and is the current leader in this niche.

I am a relative newbie here, but one with two Zeros in the garage: 2011 Zero S, 2016 Zero SR. Rode the SR around my favorite 40-mile loop yesterday, have to say that I'm starting to feel that it's the only bike I need. And I'm 73, veteran owner of over 70 ICE bikes ...... still have 8 of 'em! What I want to see is continued support from the factory, with upgrade paths ....... the 2011 S platform (for example) may not be the "real" motorcycle that the '16 SR is, but ...... a very solid, useful "around town" machine with a chassis worthy of upgraded motor/controller technology.

Hey Justin, welcome to the forums!
Here's a question you might be able to help with...I want to try and put different foot pegs on my 2014 Zero S. I think Zero uses a common mount but I'm not sure which one and more importantly, what other popular bikes use the same mount. Since it's hard to find sites that list compatibility with Zero bikes it would be really helpful to know another popular bike that uses the same mount.

I'm sure you are right.
The engineering costs of offering upgrades probably couldn't be justified especially with the volume of sales currently under Zero's belt...especially if the program was to offer upgraded parts/mods to individual customers and there would be no telling how many would actually take advantage of the upgrades offered.
However, since the technology IS changing so fast, I hope Zero is able to find ways to recognize early adopters. Like the trade in incentives that have been offered on older models in the past....I can guarantee that I would trade in my 2014 Zero S if Zero offered a good trade in incentive. ;D Now that the 2 year warranties on 2014's are all expiring soon it seems like it could be a good time for it ;)
If Zero DID offer another trade in incentive the old bikes could be collected and upgraded/refurbished in batches which might actually be economic depending on the extent of the upgrades.

I agree with mrwilsn and yourself regarding the factory taking an active role in upgrading earlier models. I guess what I would like to see (as a retired elec/mech engineer) is more available info for those of us who might like to take on the prospect of an old-fashioned "engine swap" (ala '50s Hot Rodder), or more urgently - a simple battery retrofit to take advantage of the vast improvement in Li chemistry cells in the last few years. Something like the Nissan Leaf module swap described a while ago on this forum, but backed up by at least a modicum of interest from the factory.
Yes, the trade-in incentive is a positive thing; in fact, looking into this led me directly to my recent outright purchase of a brand new 2016 SR. But when I added up all the other financial incentives (government and factory), plus a small dealer discount, and considered the advantages of the '16 model over the 2014 bikes on offer ..... I could not see parting with my perfectly good running (for now!) 2011 S. So I kept it and use it for around town errand running - jump on it and go! I really like the light weight, and the chassis/suspension/brakes are more than adequate for the purpose. I'd hate to see this cool lightweight platform become scrap just because the battery/motor/controller decided to pack up ......
