It's reasonably priced at $25, and mounts to the OEM tail extension.
It is, of course, simply a well-mounted flap.

I am happy with my own but I like how it looks, a lot neater than my DIY. Might give it a shot.
Also for a OEM accessory it is very reasonably priced.
Edit: Wtf they're charging €40 for it over over here, never mind that last statement.

:( So, new guy here and glad I found this site. (Had followed a similar one for my VW TDIs but hoping those will go by the wayside here soon; the MINI one will remain in the scan.)
I took a shot at installing the OEM rain guard last night and cannot figure out where the two screws go after I figure out how to remove the existing reflectors and the assembly under the tail. Per chance, does anyone have a diagram / instruction sheet for assembly? My original dealer was very much less than helpful, and the "other" dealer is less than helpful.
Plus, I'm in Hawaii, so I can't go down to the dealer anywhere near.

The two wide tabs attach to the back of the license plate support, using the bolts that go through the top holes of the plate. For the holes on the opposite side, there are two phillips head screws under the tail. Remove those - you are then going to put the white spacers in the kit in the holes and, using the supplied long screws, secure the rain guard. I added washers to the underside of the rain guard before inserting the screws. If you don't have the reflector assembly off yet, as you might have guessed you have to rip off the back reflector to get to the three screws holding the old part. You reuse those screws. It took me about a day to figure out which end was which and I think less than an hour to have everything done and cleaned up.

Only took them what, 4 years to realize people might be riding in the rain ? I think they should be giving those away free - all other motorcycle vendors have proper splash protection from the start.

Not my BMW R1200RS. The thing has less fender protection than the Zero and if it ever runs over a damp spot in the road the entire bike gets covered with gorp. Zero is just following the European styling trend of disappearing fender/mudguards. >:(

It not just a euro thing. The Japanese sportbikes have shrunk their tails more and more since 08... and the styling trend is trickling down to all the other bikes.

"Thank you" (Mahalo) to you and BrianTRice for the help. Got it installed this weekend along with changing out the temp tag for a Hawaiian license plate and associated motorcycle safety inspection sticker plate. Now, to wait 60-90 days for my custom tag: 1FUNEV!
