Title: 2015 DS Fork oil leaking after 4000 mls/6500 kms
Post by: Lecram on April 27, 2016, 04:50:44 AM
The left leg from my fork is leaking after only 4000 mls. I have had many bikes, but this is the first one with leaking seals after just 4000 mls. Any other similar experiences?

Is it leaking from the seal, or where the slider tube threads into the axle-boss section?

I have had three different warranty issues with leaking FastAce front forks on my Zeros.  The new forks are wonderful in comparison.

This $5 tool can sometimes take care of a leak, if it's being caused by some dirt stuck in the seals.  I've had mixed success, but it's at least worth trying before going to the trouble of a seal change...

For those who like to pinch pennies, I've also made one of these by cutting material from the side of a gallon milk jug.  Not quite as good as the original, but close.

I too have a leaking front showa fork on my fxs after only 2500 miles. Local dealer would not fix it under warranty because of a small scratch on that fork from previous owner (I had the bike for 2 months before the leak. scratch has nothing to do with leak). Now dealer asks for 150$US for the seal kit + 100$US shop work. :(

$100 labor seems pretty reasonable to replace seals.  I'm a novice mechanic, but it usually takes me about 4 about hours to replace a set.

On the other hand, $150 for seals seems pretty high.  I'm used to paying closer to $25-50 for seal kits.  Maybe they're adding oil into that price.

Overall, the estimate wouldn't be outrageous if not for their bogus claim that a tiny scratch caused the failure.
