Title: 2013 Zero S - Top box rack. Installation Manual? DIY Difficulty?
Post by: MorbidBBQ on April 22, 2016, 08:05:49 AM
The local dealership (2 hours away), offered to install my top box rack kit for 20$. (on my 2013 Zero S)
I'm thinking, for $20; it must just bolt on!

I've installed a side rack kit for my Yamaha Fz6, and would have gladly paid $20 instead of doing it myself.

I've looked for the installation manual, but can't find it.
So is it a super easy install?

Yes, It's really easy to install, two bolts.  The rack comes with longer bolts which you likely will need.  If I remember right newer bikes can use the existing seat bolts to hold the top rack in place.

Basically, the seat bolts is where the rack mounts.

I fitted my top box rack myself to my 2015 SR. Its just a matter of undoing the 2 bolts that hold on the seat and bolting 2 small bolts to the front mount of the rack then put the seat back on (seat bolts go through the rack). The problem is the seat bolts are a 6 legged star (like a philips head screw but with 6 slots not 4). I had to go buy a set of them to get the one I needed. But the up side is if you ever need to check your fuses then you have the tool to remove the seat.

The name of the driver you need is "torx" quite common now and a good thing to have around

Correction on my last post, they are all Allen style IIRC, maybe the new bolts are torx?
