Title: Guidelines for this forum

Do we have any guidelines?

I know a few here would like to keep it technical as much as possible. Perhaps keep more social topics to the General Discussion subforum?

I don't like the format that Facebook uses for discussions. You can't quote people and the discussion gets fragmented and difficult to follow. Also, people using Facebook bypass this forum, which I think is a shame. People from both sides miss topics that might be of interest to them.

My local motorcycle club has found that their forum has become less active since they created a Facebook group. Many people prefer to use Facebook even though tapatalk makes accessing the forum very convenient from a phone.

Any thoughts? Is it worth using this topic to agree on some general guidelines that could form a stickie?

I think it is always interesting to see what happens when there are no rules - at least until an automated spambot shows up, that is.   :o

This forum is pleasure to use, people are usually polite and respectful, even if it get a bit heated. ;)
Great sharing of knowledge.
It pretty much self governed, It works great as it is.

I almost posted that...  don't be a dick.

I don't like rules... but some common sense would be:

Don't talk about things you haven't done as if you have.
Don't discourage someone from doing something when you dont know how to do it yourself.

If it's a technical question, give the answer... or express your interest in also knowing the answer. Don't ignore the technical question and change the subject.

Try to stay on topic if there is a solid topic.

+1 to no rules. Perhaps 'forum etiquette' would be a better title?

I love rule number 1... I'll keep it in mind for myself! ;-)

Thanks for the other ones Dude.

This forum does a great job of self regulating though, so this may be one of those ideas that isn't so great on reflection.
