When I read nearby Janesville Wisconsin Police had a Zero for patrol - I wondered about ambling down there for a "Zero Pulls over Zero" PR stunt.
I figured the most suitable "charge" would be a violation of 347.3486(3).
Wisconsin Statutes 347.486  General requirements.
347.486(3) No person may operate a motorcycle without a functioning muffler.
305.39 Exhaust system.
(1) Every motorcycle shall be equipped with a functioning exhaust system that is maintained in proper working condition so as to reduce engine noise. The exhaust system shall be maintained in conformity with this section and s. 347.39, Stats.
But now I'm thinking I should probably write my legislature.

I bet just about every U.S. state has a version of that law. Time to go bait the cops and see how they appreciate someone trying to get them to issue a ticket for not having a muffler on an EV. Then you can head for the local (just react and don't think) TV station and get them to prepare a two-minute news episode lamenting the out-of-date law. Then you go find a legislator to champion your cause so that he can get his name in the news without having to spend any of his hard-earned campaign funds. ::) Sounds like a plan to me. ;)

But Ev don't have an Engine, and there for no Engine noise to reduce. The definition of the law makes non Engine motor bikes exempt. Electric motor is not an Internal Combustion Engine. I know your joking and I'm being a Sheldon.

on a more realistic note.. there are plenty of Federal laws here in the USA that need to change.
how about headlight laws that would allow modern headlight patterns? or making amber rear turn signals mandatory?

I've never understood why this hasn't been implemented yet in the USA.

lack of interest and bureaucracy mostly.
Audi is the only large entity actively fighting to change it in the USA... but its a very uphill battle to even get it to come up.
