Makes sense on such a tiny island. Not enough land to run out of range and petrol and parts must be expensive.

You are partially right VChampain , because our electricty is 60% made with huge generator sucking oil, but 40% is coming out of many dam giving hydro electricty.  Lot of water for a tiny island!  ;)

With  a petrol bike you're burning 100% fossil fuel, but with the weather you get over there I guess solar has a good opportunity to make at least quite a dent in the mix.

In fact if you do the math you see that even if ypur e-bike uses electricity from a fuel gas plant, you make more kilometers per liter of fuel than with an ICE. This is because ICE engine have a low efficiency (20% with a thermodynamic theorical max at 37%), while large CCGT plants can reach a 54% effinciency and electric motors a close to 100% ratio (you can check this by putting your hand on your zero's engine after riding). Moreover stanby suck a lot of energy with an ICE bike & braking is not regenerative.

Yes you are right, here there is a lot of sun, all year long, most of houses has solar tanks for hot water, and some has solar panels, not that much though...
The problem with solar panel at home is that you produce a lot when you don't need (daytime), and because you don't stock, you sell your production not even the third of the price of EDT, the only AC 220V provider here. --> bad return on investment.

Slightly off-topic but if you still have one of these meters:

It will probably just spin in reverse.
