Title: 2015 SR not fully charging, Sometimes will not engage contactor as well
Post by: xmjsilverx on June 15, 2015, 08:49:24 AM
I have 2 separate issues on my 2015 SR.  Twice now I have left it charging over night, I come out the next day and it is showing 84% charge and 0hrs left to charge.  After I unplug the charger and plug it back in it jumps to around 91% and 40min left to go and it seems to work form there.  Has anyone had this issue?  If it happens once more I will probably call the dealer.  Also twice now I rode it to lunch and shut it off for about 30 min, when I came back out I turned the key on and the kill switch off and the bike won't move.  I did notice the warning light flashing a super fast flash every couple seconds.  I didn't have time to check it out because I was riding with some friends and they had already taken off.  A reset of the key switch fixes it.  Any ideas on these issues?

See my posts here and in tech help. Mine started with a slow charge that wouldn't fill all the way up and now its a flashing mess.  Mine rode fine for a few rides after it started and now dash is wild and I haven't tried to ride it again but I have to assume its a no go as I don't even show the kick stand and kill switch blink.  I'm going to try to take it in tomorrow but I'm out of warranty and a bad battery would make it a tough decision (2013 DS) love the bike but if its a major failure in two years what might go next.  You may have a completely different issue but mine started the same.

I had a problem with the charge indication a few times on my 2014 SR. It would freeze at some percentage, but when I unplugged and used the key to turn the bike on, it would indicate 100% -- i.e. it HAD charged, it just didn't indicate it correctly. It went away when I had it in for a new tire and they updated the firmware. Granted, yours is a 2015, but my firmware update was just a couple of months ago. Check with your dealer if you need an update.

This is exactly what happened to me a few weeks ago. In addition to not charging overnight - it wouldn't run! When I turned the key on the dash lit up and cycled normally, but there was no response to the throttle. I sent the bike logs to Zero - they picked the bike up and took it back to the factory. It was going there anyway due to the front wheel vibration I was experiencing, but the bike logs indicated a problem with the BMS board - so they replaced that while it was there.
I've only had it back for a few days, but I haven't had any problems since.
Do you know how to download the bike logs to your smart phone and email the data to Zero? I would try that and then call them.

I had the contactor issue again today.  I had error codes 25 and 49.  I restarted and I had 25, 38, and 39 for a second then everything was good.  I guess unless anyone has any ideas I will call the dealer.

Since Zero replaced the BMS board in my SR last month it hasn't happened again.

Oh wow! This is exactly the problem I had since the third month of having the bike. Been communicating with Zero ever since (thought my problem was unique, they don't seem to understand what my problem is). Only thing is it seems to be getting worse. If I leave the bike on overnight charging and come back to check, the whole dash is flashing (was not the problem before). I just switch off and on and the problem seems to go away. Also stops at 86%. Continuous switching on and off, eventually it gets to 100%. Last charge to 100% took me three days. Not practical to use like this. I'm worried that I might damage something else, like the battery. Is there nothing I can do to fix it myself? Bike is still under warranty (don't want to scratch and loose warranty), but we do not have any Zero agents in Cape Town, South Africa. Can I do a firmware update myself? Is a BMS board the only solution and is it easy to replace myself? Or am I pretty much screwed and need to "accidentally" send the bike over a cliff while the insurance is still of value ;D ? I'm hoping there is a simple solution to this problem.  :'(

I just took my zero to the local shop for the same reason. It was flashing error code 47, charger disabled. After it wouldn't charge is two different locations. The shop is going to take a look at it and get in touch with zero in next steps.

I have exactly the same issue. it started just after I took the bike from the dealership to change tires...
In this case manual says to let the bike charging for a full 24 hours. I did improve a little bit but did not solve the issue.

Another more worrying issue I have : motor brake acts randomly, which can be quite dangerous (you think the bike is motor braking, and the second after it is not !!!).

Do you have a Power Tank?  If so (heck, even if not), you may want to review this: New Power Tank installed (http://electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=5049.0)

I've had issues similar to what you (and many others) have described in this thread.  Too soon to say if the new Power Tank is actually the fix or not... Fingers crossed.
