This is something I did when I was deciding to buy my SR. I had some friends get excited over it, so I figured I'd post it for general interest. The prices are MSRP from the various manufacturer websites.
Edit: yeah, my eyeballs fell out at the price of the airbag Goldwing too.

It isn't very hard to dump 20K + into a motorcycle. And these are just the base prices. Start adding accessories and before long you are talking some real money! :)! I love my Elcons and being able to charge from L2 stations but the capability to do that isn't cheap.

It is all true. The motorcycle manufacturers seem to be going for the senior enthusiast (like me) with big bucks to spend on another toy. But once we all die off what then? If electric battery and motor suppliers can drop prices, sales will pick up and prices will fall to a point where younger people will be able to afford to ride electric. While the major manufacturers are going for the gold in the U.S. and Europe, they are starting to produce smaller, less expensive motorcycles, in Asia for not only that market but also for the rest of the world, including the U.S. At some point, if the Japanese ever enter the EV market, they might be able to cut costs by building in Asia like they are doing now with IC motorcycles. But in the meantime, (as us BMW owners say) Bring More Wallet. ;)

I think my Elcons were around $1100.00 each from Hollywood Electrics. They sell them programmed for the Zero and also have the proper connections for the bike. When I first asked about them Harlan said many people who ordered just one ended up coming back for a second one. My experience so far is you are not going to regret money spent on faster charging. With two Elcons you have 6300 watts of charging ability when used with the internal charger on the Zero. I have the Power Tank option and even if I go down to under 10% SOC I can still be back to 100% in just under 2 hours. The Elcons allow you to travel with the Zero. I live about an hour south of Raleigh, NC and have made several trips to western NC on my Zero. This past weekend I went to the coast on a camping trip with my SR. Having full L2 charging capability really opens up what you can do with your SR. It really does turn the SR from something just for local fun into a light sport tourer.

Wouldn't middleweight street bikes be a better comparison?
Duke Monster Dark 821 - $11K
(Ducati Scrambler pricing seemingly isn't available yet but apparently will be <$10K. Advertising, and the bike's specs, suggests a closer match to a Zero than the new Monster is).
Aprilia Shiver 750 - $8.7K
Guzzi V7 - $8.5K
Yamaha FZ-07 $7K
Suzy SFV650 - $7.7K
Kwak Ninja 650 - $7.2K
Honda NC700 - $7.8K
for instance, (also from manufacturers' websites).
Still plenty of motorcycling to be had for around $10K or less

Its even worse in Australia $25,490 for SR :(
