Title: The fastest production saloon/sedan in the world is electric.

This will upset some petrol heads and wake up the world to the benefits of electric drivetrains for sure.

Now it needs to be "tested" (and destroyed) by Top Gear before it can be proclaimed a true supercar.   ::)

I very much doubt Telsa will ever let Top Gear near one of their cars ever again...  :o

Top Gear USA did an EV roundup episode a little while ago, they were generally dismissive towards the smaller EVs (LEAF, 500e, Focus) but very impressed with the Tesla. P85 model beat a Chevy Camaro ZL1 (580 hp) in a quarter mile drag, and beat a Mercedes S550 around a lap of their test track.

They also race the ZL1 against 3 prototype EVs: a converted Chevy S10 pickup, a converted Porsche 944, and a dragster. All of the EVs are faster than the ZL1 in the quarter mile.

Skip to 3:15 in segment 4 for the Model S bit.

Good to know.
But I wonder if Tesla will ever let the EV-Antichrist, Clarkson, near another one (without "accidentally" hooking the seat up to the battery that is...)

Don't forget, Clarkson is also anti-motorcycle.  He is an equal-opportunity hater.    ;)

Clarkson's character is a boor. I'm not sure the person isn't.

Several of my friends drive i3's and love them. 

I had the chance to drive a Tesla Roadster and Model S, and am trying to imaging 1g of acceleration in the P85D.  That must be incredible!
