Title: Buying a Used VX-1

I am in the market for an electric bike, and know that Vectrix is out of business. Someone locally is selling a 2008 VX-1 with 1000 miles and it has had the battery replaces 2 yrs ago. Overall it's in good shape.  I offred him $1500 for the bike, but he wants $2200. Given that the company is out of business and parts may be hard to find, it is worth ~$2000? I can do basic maintanance but am not an EE, and have never worked on electric vehicles. Just wondering if it's a good price? Thanks

You should only consider a Vectrix if you have skills to replace the battery yourself. The 2008 bikes had NiMH batteries and they fail fast when not used in the correct way and I doubt that a bike with 1000 miles will have a good battery. The NiMH bikes need daily exercise to maintain good performance and range. Also the standard Vectrix firmware will destroy the cells (reason for 1st cell replacement?)

Thanks for the info. The batteries are not original, he had the dealer replace them 2 yrs ago with a complete new NiMH pack from vectrix under warrantee
