Title: New Isle of Man Record for Electric Bikes
Post by: oobflyer on June 08, 2014, 11:09:53 AM
The Mugen Shinden [translation: unlimited god of electricity] race team broke the previous record by an electric bike at the Isle of Man this week at 117 MPH. Remember just a few years ago when the electric bike teams were all trying to break the 100 MPH barrier? Amazing progress!

Wonder if they have plans to run the TT any time soon.

Lightning vs. Mugen Shinden vs. Chip Yates would be an awesome match-up :)

It's worth noting that Mission Motors supplies some powertrain components - likely the motor and motor controller - for the Mugen bike.

It is rated at a lower power / torque spec than the 2011 Mission R. Notably, however, the Mugen bike doesn't really need *that* much power for the IOM track .. so it's possible they're using a slightly smaller/lighter motor. For short circuit races, however, they might swap in a more powerful motor.
