Last night on the Bay Area's Channel 2 TV station's (KTVU.com) 10pm news, at around 10:30 pm, was an "investigation" report on the FAA performing safety tests on lithium-ion batteries. There were lots of videos showing lithium batteries shooting fire in all directions, a test plane's structure being damaged due to lithium fire, several mentions of planes crashing due to on-board lithium battery fires and even a mention that the Korean plane that was lost earlier this year was carrying 2.5 tons of "lithium" (batteries?), implying that may have been the reason that the plane crashed. The end result of the FAA's investigation seems to be going in the direction of prohibiting lithium batteries from being transported on aircraft. Not good for the industry, the transportation of bulk batteries, or the cost of doing so. :(
