My local dealer just got a Dynojet and has been advertising the hell out of it. So eventually I figured it would be fun to give it a go and check it out.
The guy who answered the phone asked a service tech if they could dyno a Zero and when he came back to the phone he said they wouldn't do it.
Any ideas as to why they wouldn't put an electric motorcycle on a dyno? I asked him for an explanation, but he didn't know and he didn't want to take a service tech off his station to answer the question. I don't get it.

Hi, it should be no problem, I did it a few times. Only the signal for motor rpm isn't easy to get, so you need to calculate the torque curve from the speed / power curve using your wheel diameter and gear ratio.. You can export the data in a csv file and use this later on in excel for example..

I know they don't like to dyno a two-stroke. They dyno guys wouldn't touch my Aprilia RS50. Too stinky and gums up the works, I believe. Perhaps they don't want to dyno an electric motorcycle just because they are not familiar with them and don't wan to take the time to figure it out. ???

I can't think of any valid reason why they'd refuse.
I'd like to see the dyno if you're able to get it.

Maybe they don't know how. Getting rpm data would be tricky as they usual just put a clamp on the HT lead.

I've dyno'd Zero's tons of times (I ran R&D for Zero for the last 4 years). There is no good reason they can't dyno it for you. They may not be able to give you engine RPM or torque from the built in functions. But they should be able to give you speed, HP, and torque at-the-wheel, and you can back out the rest from there. One interesting item... "corrected power". All major Dyno's that I am aware of have built in SAE/ECE/DIN/JIS "corrected power" based on temp, humidity and baro pressure at a very low level in the system. It was actually quite a pain to remove it in our test dyno. The good news is you bike will dyno higher than it should :) And the higher and hotter you test the more power the dyno will claim for your bike ;p
This has always resulted in decent, if not optimistic, dyno numbers for electric vehicles. I have yet to see a dyno test from a reputable organization properly account for (or remove) the "power correction" ingrained in all dynos. And surprisingly, it wouldn't appear any of the manufacturers are chomping at the bit to set them straight ;p

Thanks guys. I intend to bring the bike into the shop soon to ask personally what's up with that policy. I know the owner and there is a good chance he'll set them straight.
However, today it is 20 degrees (F) outside, so I won't be going there today.

Yesterday I went with my Zero to a motorcycle event to Kulmbach http://motorradsternfahrt.de/home_e.php (http://motorradsternfahrt.de/home_e.php) , they call it the biggest in southern Germany.

Measured values at reer wheel: Pmax: 37,6 kw at 6000 RPM and max Nm 68,9 at 4700 RPM
They only wanted to know if there is a RPM Meter on the bike because they had to calibrate their system at 3000 RPM

If you listen carefully at the end of the dyno run you can hear the guys saying:
Guy next to my bike eating a sausage: "... It's the torque."
Guy sitting on my Zero who performed Dyno Run: "I am fascinated."
