Title: Crowd-funded Solar Concentrating System
Post by: TheAgavePrince on February 19, 2014, 02:43:42 AM

Interesting contraption uses a ball lens to concentrate sunlight/moonlight to maximize solar charging potential.

At the bottom he's listed the specs: apparently the largest will kick out 3.4 kWh / Day, so you may need a few.  Not sure if i'd prefer mounting regular solar panels or this giant 6 foot Eye of Sauron on top of the garage, but it's something different.

I saw this a few weeks ago.  Its a gimmick, the desktop versions are a fun toy for charging your phone until you get bored and stick it back in the cupboard but the full size ones make no sense.  Why would you have a giant plastic ball on your roof when you could have flat PV panels that you won't even notice are there.  Especially with prices coming down as fast as they are.
