I took my 2012 ZF9 to the Pleasanton, CA NorCal Mastercraft dealership where I bought my bike, for a software update today. When I asked about the new 2014 Zeros I was told that NorCal won't be selling them. They decided that from the first of the year (2014) they will stick to watercraft (boats, jet skis, etc)... no more motorcycles. The manager (ironically a Chevy Volt owner) explained that it's expensive to borrow money to buy the bikes for their inventory - and a salesman explained to me that they don't have much of a profit margin on the Zeros to begin with.
When I asked where I could take my bike for service the service technician said they will still help current Zero owners with any problems. I hope this is true.
I was quite surprised by this news - as Zero seems to be doing well. I had anticipated that the new 2014s would sell even better with the advancements they've made recently.

I think it is tough to be a Zero dealer. Margins are thin and there is less to offer customers once a sale is made as these bikes require very little maintenance and parts to keep running as compared to other motorsports products.
Boats are certainly more lucrative to both sale and service.

I seem to recall that a boat is a hole in the water that you pour money into. ;) Zeros are not quite like that. :)
