Title: Newbie question... will an ac air compressor motor work for ev?
Post by: Paul4433 on February 08, 2012, 11:08:45 AM
Hi Everybody,

I have a AC GE air compressor motor, model number 5KCR48TRZS, part # c-mo-3020, v=115 or 230, HZ=60, A=15 or 7.5, RPM=3435. It comes with an "automatic protector" warning about restarting.

Would this motor work for a small (175cc) dirtbike? The bike's bottom end is intact so I would like to keep the transmission. Possible?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Paul

not well if at all.

It's a single phase, and they have very low starting torque, then you'd have to get an inverter to drive single phase AC.... and I don't know of any.

Thanks for your input.  I will get rid of it then and keep looking for something more appropriate.

Stay away from standard AC Induction motors unless you plan on getting something like an AC15 or AC20 motor from HPEVS (I resell them). They're quite expensive but they come with a controller that is matched to the motor.
