Title: Zero S controller shutdown
Post by: 3025william on October 10, 2010, 03:36:07 AM
I have a 2010 Zero S and have experienced occasional motor controller shutdowns.  This has usually occured when I have been climbing a hill at full throttle and then snap the throttle shut after cresting the hill.  The bike then will not respond to the throttle and will coast to a stop if I don't reset it by cycling the kill switch or key.  Has anybody else had a similar experience?

I don't own an S/DS but it could be a few things. The BMS shutting things down because a section of the pack went to low voltage cut off. Thermal cut by the controller but this would not be just a fast reset till things cooled down.

What level of charge does this seem to happen? might help narrow down the problem. Should also feel the major parts of the bike next time this happens. If you have an IR temp gun even better.

It sounds like your controller may be having some issues.  Its an easy fix but you should notify Zero or you local sales rep and have it replaced under warranty.
