Those are pretty cool. Eurobike 2010 had all kinds of cool electric assist and electric bikes on display.

I will be riding an Optibike this Saturday. I'll let you know how that goes.

How was it?

Well, it wheelies. :D So that was a huge positive in my book.

The bike is obviously heavy due to the batteries. But the weight is low in the frame and you don't really feel it while rolling.

It feels like a bicycle. The brake levers are setup motorcycle style, left brake is rear wheel, right lever is front. My mind says this is a bicycle and that caused me to grab the wrong brake. I would reverse them immediately.

Brake setup caused me to flip a wheelie (grabbed a handful of the front brake instead of the rear). The bike is not heavy enough to make this an issue. It was an easy save.

I was able to cruise effortlessly at big ring speeds.

I was able to accelerate at rates better than getting on the pedals hard.

Bottom line, this bike was very inspiring. Wish I had the $.

Negatives...
Rear suspension is single pivot. Keeps things simple but there are better systems out there but this may be fine for the application. Looking forward to hearing what they do with this in the future.
Some of the details were low budget. bolts attaching shock were sticking out kind of far. Could have looked cleaner.

Other interesting things to come out of my conversation with Craig Taber (marketing / web / etc)...

This bike is 36 Volt with 850 watt motor.

They have a working 48 volt bike with a 1200 watt motor. (not for sale yet)

The bike can be hacked to have a larger burst of speed. ("wheelie at 25 mph") This will be on the police bikes and they will call it "pursuit mode".

Yeah, I'm not sure how they can command that price but they are selling the bikes. We will see where the price goes in a few years.

Eurobike had 6 or more bikes with a motor driven bottom bracket this year. This was probably one of the coolest...
