Hi there!
A first teaser: I´m building -with a little help from my friends- a centerstand for my Experia. Here is a first photo:
I modified a centerstand from a Yamaha MT09, smallered it to 170mm and added some brackets.
Today i had a first testride, clearence is ok, bike stands well, i have to do some paint and a little adjustment.

Congratulations! Agreed, nice result to your experiment.
This gives me an opportunity to ask a question before I start my own experiments: Was there ever any doubt about the case/casting not being able to withstand the forces transmitted by a center stand? Or, as we've all been lead to think, a budget/supply issue? Thanks!

Unfortunately, I don't know if there were any concerns about its strength. I haven't found any information on that.
The left mounting point is in the engine mount, where the side stand is also attached. So there shouldn't be any problems there. The right bracket is part of the engine and actually looks quite sturdy. I'm using 12mm bolts and dowel pins to mount the stand and minimize the load on the mounting points.
A large portion of the motorcycle's weight is supported by the stops for the stand position on center stands. Whenever I've seen center stands fail, these stops have always been the culprit, which is why I used 10mm thick steel blocks here.

Do you plan to get it officially approved by the German TÜV?
I am convinced with a nice paintjob this modification will not rise questions, but you will need a killswitch like for the sidestand. The TÜV guy will definitely test this.
Just saying, because I currently have a problem with that, too. We need to find out how the thingie operates and connects to the bike's controls.
Was just a dumb assumption from my side. @smithy corrected me (see below)

I don't know of any bike that has a kill switch on the centre stand....only on the side stand.

No, i won't approve it by TÜV. Who will know, this bike is or is not sold with a centerstand? At least approving by TÜV is only a weared german thing, no other country cares. Worst case it takes two screws to unmount it. So what?

Center stand looks great, can you give us a better picture on where it hard mounts to?
If motor casing then be careful use forward / reverse motion only and refrain from spinning bike once on the stand will snap them ears off...but you knew this already.

New photos will follow as soon as the center stand is finally mounted. Currently, the stand is being extended by another 20mm in height to ensure the rear wheel safely leaves the ground. The mounting sleeves are also not yet finished. Please bear with me.

Will be a great project when sorted...I look forward to seeing your work. You'll be one of the only "non promotional" Experias in the wild with a centre stand.

Good work. I wondered when someone would just make one from another bike's centerstand. I have similar plans. Unfortunately, the motorcycle wreckers (junk yard) that was minutes from my home went out of business after forty years. I hoped to take measurements on the Experia and rummage through their centerstand piles for likely candidates. Now I may have to gamble on eBay or other online retailers.

Several years ago, I built a center stand for a Triumph Thunderbird Sport from the stand of a Triumph Tiger T400, so I had some idea of ??what I was getting myself into. Besides, I have a friend who's a metalworker and welder and helps me with projects like this.
If everything works to my satisfaction, I will publish further pictures, dimensions, and drawings of the required bushings. Then anyone who wants to put in the work can make their own center stand.

Hey everyone,
the center stand is finally finished.
The original center stand from a Yamaha MT09 was modified to be 170mm wide and 20mm taller. It now has metal blocks with 6mm threads and screws as stops when the bike is upright, as well as a thin metal strut that acts as a stop when the stand is folded. A machine shop made me stainless steel bushings that fit into the existing mounts on the motorcycle.
Tomorrow I'll take it for its first ride, hoping I don't throw any sparks at the asphalt...
By the way: I shortened the side stand by 15mm and fitted a significantly larger footplate. It's much more stable this way.

energica, wtf, when everyday people like us can put together stuff like centerstands with existing oem ./ cots parts and they work really well, why is it so fkkk hard for you, a supposed motorcycle designing company to do the same thing? maybe you can market this thing, and they can buy them from you to appease the customers they promised stands too!

I didn't find it difficult to build a center stand like that either. However, the execution proved me wrong.
Unfortunately, I have to rule out the idea of ??mass production. Given the expected quantities and the effort involved, it would be far too expensive, especially since I, as the manufacturer, would also have to assume liability. In that case, approval from a vehicle inspection authority in the respective country would certainly be required, which ultimately makes it uninteresting.
I'm happy to offer suggestions or answer questions so that everyone can try to build their own center stand, but I won't be able to sell parts. I've already had bad experiences with that in Germany...

The first test this morning went well. The stand didn't move from its position and had no effect on ground clearance, suspension, or lean angle. I'm satisfied.

I think the results are excellent...as long no torsional load is applied to engine casing ears it will be a winner...thanks for sharing.

Only the right side is mounted to the motor casing, the other is through the lower left frame which also has the side stand mounted to it.
