Title: Quick Charger adapter identification

I purchased a Quick Charger from a person who stated that he got the charger from Zero corp. But the connector is different from what I see in listings, (possibly earlier prototype). Can someone tell me the name of this connector, so I can get an adapter to try to charge my dead 2018 Zero S? It looks like a custom 3 prong Anderson PP type connector to me. Also, the adaptor I am looking for is Anderson SBS75X, correct?

It could be one for the earlier models that had 48V batteries, can you post some photos of the actual box? I have one of the 96V Zero ones to compare to. However I think those still had the SBS75 connector as the unofficial manual warns about plugging the wrong chargers in.

I don't know what that is but the one you were undoubtedly expecting was the Anderson SBS75XBRN

Yes, all the letters make a difference because different colored Andersons won't mate together. That is to say SBS75XBLK won't work, nor would SBS75XRED etc. You'll obviously need two SBS pins and whatever the signal pin crimp is. I don't actually know that one offhand.

These are Anderson (andersonpower.com (mouser.com/manufacturer/anderson-power-products/)) Powerpole connectors. Up to 55 Amp current capacity when new. You can slide them apart and rearrange the layout. Usually not chemical tolerant, so unlikely to be original on any vehicle electronics. Popular connector replacement for a while in RC vehicles. I have a box full of these.
Probably the original connector in your persons Zero was damaged, so he used these as a replacement.

You may be correct. I think this was used with Zero MX, not sure the year.
Do you think they used a different charging algorithm, or would I be able to charge up to 48v with this charger?

It's totally different. Perhaps it can be reprogrammed for newer bikes, but you won't be able to do that yourself. You may as well be looking for a compatible charger.


FWIW, I own a half-dozen of the chargers you want, and I have not used any of them in years.

I was actually able to find another zero 48v charger, and it had the same plug. Don is correct, it's from an older model, not custom.

Not necessarily an older model. Delta-Q makes chargers primarily for things like 48vdc golf carts. So it's just a different model, one of dozens they make. You could series up two of them to double the output voltage but I don't have any idea if it sends the same enable signal to put the bike into charge mode so the BMS does cell balancing etc.

Don't even think about trying it. It could be dangerous for a charger to be running an incorrect program for your battery. You don't want to have a lith battery fire!

If your battery pack is below 48v it's already destroyed and should be recycled. This a 28S pack meaning it operates between 96-116.4vdc. If it's below 48 that means that, on a cell level, they're below 2vdc. At this point they're no longer salvageable. They must be destroyed.

I have not decided anything yet. But I have six of them that I have not used for years, since I now charge my 2017 Zeros with Elcon Chargers. (https://www.zivanusa.com/)


I now charge my 2017 Zero DS at 6.4KW, my 2017 SR at 8KW.

id be careful about putting the chargers in series for 96 volts. they may not like that and you could possibly severely stress some of the components in them.  if you are going to do any sort of playing of that nature, please do it outside so that if something does go south, it's not taking the garage / house with it

I mean, it can't hurt to exercise caution but I've never had a problem putting chargers in series. Before Zero switched to the Calex OBC the default was 4 MeanWells in series strapped together to reach the desired voltage range. You can still find them on early 2013-2014 models.

I have had issues using chargers in series. They were both grounded. Input and output. When installed they shared common ground. So when they were connected in series, one was shorted to ground through the other charger.

ive seen something as simple as a soldering iron do the same thing, wasn't on an isolated circuit, plugged into the same 120 vac as the equipment being soldered, the moment he touched the tip to the circuit card, aww gosh darn, there goes the magic smoke, all up into the vents,  hmm i hope someone doesn't smell it and  .ding ding ding fire fire fire !!!!  god dammit !!!

another fun one is when the plug gets swapped, you'd not think it's a big deal on American 115 vac shit, .. ahh but wait until you touch the item that is swapped, or brush another piece of stereo equipment in the rack and it, with something conductive.... yah baby...

cheap shit is not always isolated properly, and you are setting yourself up for nasty surprises.

learned long ago when doing that kind of playing, isolate each piece of equipment and take voltage tests across each chasis.   yes grasshopper, experience is directly proportional to expensive equipment ruined  8)
