Title: New Leadership at Zero
Post by: JaimeC on October 31, 2025, 05:49:27 PM
I guess it makes sense considering their global outlook.  Motorcycles do better outside of the US (ESPECIALLY electric ones) and they are relocating their headquarters. Having a multi-lingual CEO is not a bad idea. And (unlike Harley Davidson) this one has experience with motor vehicles (although not the two-wheeled variety YET).

I wonder if he's suddenly going to have an epiphany that Zero are imminently doomed if they don't add CCS charging, like, yesterday.

I wonder if Bos's career is going up or down by joining Zero?  ::) And where has the previous Zero CEO gone? Has he found a new CEO position? That might be interesting to know.

"Sam Paschel, who steps into a senior advisory role on Zero’s board"

Isn't this basically a press release dressed up as an article it is searching up elsewhere.

"Bos joins Zero with over two decades of international experience in the automotive industry. Before his appointment, he served as Director of Purpose Built Vehicles at Kia Europe, and previously held senior roles at Stellantis, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, and Kia"

Stellantis I thought they have had problems like reliability ones with electric vehicles.

Zero hired an AMA Hall of fame who worked for Husqvarna for a while, likely before the ktm era.  I can't recall his name at the moment but hired this candy company Pascel to run the place.

New PR  public relations firm for the US market.  https://powersportsbusiness.com/news/2025/10/08/zero-motorcycles-expands-global-footprint-names-new-pr-partner/

The problem with all this is ... Stellantis have an absolutely awful reputation.

Sounds like you didn't actually read the article or you'd know...

I did read the Pack article, which was the one that I was referring to, however I missed your article's link. Thanks for posting that. But I am still not sure what Paschel’s next real job will be.

That quote is from the Pack article, literally the first paragraph. His new job will be a "senior advisory role on Zero's board", that's pretty much it. He moves down from being CEO but remains on the board, if you want more of an idea of what a senior advisor does then Google can help with that. It'll probably be fairly similar to what he was doing but he won't be the one calling the shots, just advising the one taking over.

I saw that, I just doubted that a "senior advisor" is going to be paid as much as a CEO. You would think he would want another CEO job in addition to being a "senior advisor" on a company board of directors unless he is retiring and showing up for board meetings occasionally will be a retirement hobby.

Hey Zero Im doing my part in the US as a kind of rolling advert. Will hit 70k miles this month.
People ask me what it is in traffic stops.
That being said, I have NEVER seen another SRS or SRF on the road in over 5 years of ownership
To be fair I've never seen a Guzzi or Energica either.

prince, what is the voltage of that battery pack.
if it's running around 100volts,  ccs may not be able to do that, it's too low for it.
granted the 'standard' seems to drift around from place to place but generally seems to start at 100 volts or so.
if your 8 percent charge left battery is sitting at 86 volts and the charger wants to put 103 volts minimum to charge it, that's going to be a bad day.

Yes we're well aware that Zeros can't DC charge because the voltage is too low. Cas knows this, they're not suggesting that Zero magically add CCS to their current bikes but rather they need to get their shit together and move into the future by upping their pack voltage like everyone else.

or, right, make a charge tank with a 200->100VDC step down. The technology exists. It may kick out a bit of heat.
I'd fit that straight away and chuck out my 6kW AC charge tank. I said somewhere recently, my next bike isn't going to be a Zero, it's going to be something with CCS charging capability. But if they make a DC charge tank, I'll buy that instead of a new bike.

There is that too, but I'm just going to assume that no one has done it yet for a good reason. My guess would be the size and it producing more than just a bit of heat. This is the best I've ever managed to find although it's a difficult item to search for.

https://heliosps.com/product/hvi-5k-3u7-600vdc-input-5kw-rugged-industrial-dc-dc-converter/

14kg for 5kW, around 85% efficiency seems typical so only 750W of heat in this case but bump that up to just 14kW for 1C charging on a base model Zero and you've got over 2kW of heat, and it's the size of a 3U server.

Hmm that would also imply that all the hardware in those super fast chargers out there is also horribly inefficient and kicking out vast amounts of heat too ... yikes.

They do. My Tesla’s fan howls. I don’t think the dispenser has a fan, but all of those connect to a bigger box that is the actual charger with fans for cooling.

the chargers have fans in them at the rectification area,  plain ccs chargers do as well,  yes a lot of heat gets put out straightening the wiggles back out.

Coming from Stellantis is not a glowing recommendation. I hope Bos moved over to Zero because he wanted some challenges where he could make a difference and that he will be able to do so. There is of course a question of what projects are in the pipelines and what targets Pachel has left at Zero.
Pachel will go somewhere. Being on a board of a company does not take much of your time.

Maybe if Zero comes out with new serious motorcycle, the voltage will be higher and allow CCS. When I say serious, I mean Gen2 or Gen3 replacement. How long they can avoid doing that (new serious bike and/or higher voltage) I don't know. They might come out with the mini bike first.
If my bike dies today there is no current Zero I'm really interested in. Honda WN7 is currently on top of my list for replacing it when it dies. The upcoming (hopefully) long range adventure version. :)
