Title: Electric motorcycles in films and shows
Post by: TheRan on August 09, 2025, 05:10:17 AM
I went to see The Naked Gun today and noticed they were using Livewires, either Alpinistas or Del Mars, and though it would be an interesting idea for people to share other examples they've found. I thought they fit in well with the plot and allowed them to easily show people being bad riders, where as if it had been gas bikes they'd be expected to stall or drop the clutch and loop the bike. The Ducati scene in Yes Man always bothered me because the guy's supposed to not know how to ride yet he accidentally rides like a pro stunt rider.

The other example I have are the Zero DS (maybe R's) used in John Wick 3. This one bugged me as much as Yes Man because they only used them to avoiding spooking the horse (which I do appreciate) but then they went and dubbed over it with the sound of a gas bike. As if people couldn't possibly comprehend that bikes exist that don't run on gas, and that it wouldn't make perfect sense for assassins to ride near silent bikes that are reliable and they can jump on at a moments notice and keep their left hand free for holding weapons.

I mean off the top of my head you've got:

- LiveWire One prototype in Avengers: Age of Ultron

- Fleet of Energicas in Snake Eyes

- Energica SS9 in Nope

- The not-to-named bike in The Accountant 2

The amount of times I've seen Age of Ultron and I never noticed that was a Livewire One. I've not seen those other films but I'll be watching the second Accountant film. I had heard about the bike in that, I wonder if it was the production company that approached Lightning or the other way round. Are the bikes in the other films still presented as being electric?

Matt Damon owns one and has been filmed riding it around LA. So I suspect that's the related bit. Pretty hard to miss the Ultron bike. It makes futuristic electric whirring sounds, and a big HARLEY-DAVIDSON splashes across the screen in a closeup for a few frames. However it was being ridden by Scarlett Johannson in tight leather so it's entirely possible you never even saw a motorcycle at all.

edit- and Energicas depicted only ever make Energica sounds. Because Energica demanded it not be covered up by fake gas noises.

I just assumed he was somehow involved in production, and it turns out Damon actually is the executive producer. If only Damon rode a Damon.
