Title: DS, DSR, DSRP, DSR/X Recall, Front Brake Hose
Post by: karlh on July 14, 2025, 04:22:15 PM
Zero has announced a recall of certain 2024 subject motorcycles for a twisted front brake hose.  Attached is a copy of the Safety Recall Report Zero submitted to NHTSA.  Note on page 5 that owner notification will occur NLT the week of July 28.

Is there a way to know my dsrx 2024 month of production without asking Zero?

don't quote me on this but would the vin help.
does a vin number tell the month and year of production of the vehicle

what about a dsr/x motorcycle

For a Zero DSR/X motorcycle, the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) can provide the year of production, but the month is not directly encoded in the standard 17-digit VIN format, similar to other vehicles. Here’s a detailed breakdown specific to the Zero DSR/X:

Year of Production: The 10th character of the VIN indicates the model year of the Zero DSR/X. For example:
"N" = 2022
"P" = 2023
"R" = 2024
"S" = 2025 This follows the standardized VIN year chart used by most manufacturers, avoiding letters like I, O, Q, U, and Z to prevent confusion with numbers. The model year typically aligns with the production year, though vehicles produced late in the year (e.g., late 2024) may be designated as the next model year (2025).webbikeworld.com
Month of Production: The standard 17-digit VIN does not include a specific character for the month of production for motorcycles, including the Zero DSR/X. However, you can often find the exact production date (including the month) in the following ways:
Build Date Sticker/Plate: Check the motorcycle’s frame, typically near the steering neck or on a metal tag above the motor, for a sticker or plate that includes the production date (month and year). For Zero motorcycles, this is often located on the frame or near the battery compartment.

see if that helps.

One thought is to check the earliest entry in your bike's logs. As an example, I bought my 2018 Zero S in November 2017, but when checking the first entry in its log, it showed some activity the previous month.

i actually thought the vin had that month data too and was looking at how specifically it was coded, but  was wrong there, stumbled on this and figured it might help. but oh well, not this time.

oh no misundertanding at all.  i actually thought the vin had month data in it and was oh, well got that one wrong ,lets see if this data thing works.  i know on my truck, the door has a sticker on it, right by the one with the tire specs and crap that says when they thing was put together.  was hoping the bikes had same sort of info in it.

the log file someone mentioned, doesn't that get cleared every time you d/l it?  it'd get corruptably huge otherwise id think.
look up  a bill of sale or dmv history maybe help you?

I know mine is a 2024 model, and was produced end of 2023 or beginning of 2024, because the shop had the bike before mid 2024.

I bought it in Feb 2025.

The logs are somehow confusing, because the parser no longer works realiably with the new Zero data format.
I download logs once a month and I checked, but there is only 3 entries from 2/3/2024 (maybe when testing the controller itself) and then, checking the next downloaded log, it has no info foro 2/3/2024 but has some info about 4/42024. In both cases, the next entries are from 15/2/2025 so... very wierd :D

do you just download raw data or is it actually like a file on it? like a .dat, .csv, .txt etc. if it's a file is there any metadata attached to it that may shed some info, ie original creation date / author... stuff like that which might give a hint.

I have found the instructions to review and fix the issue:

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2025/RCRIT-25V459-7997.pdf

but mine is not affected, my cable runs perfectly paralell to the line :D
