This is not going to help the overseas sales of the LiveWire: https://www.the-sun.com/motors/13876859/harley-davidson-cfo-jonathon-root-eu-tariffs/

You may find the last three minutes of this blog discussing H-D's current problems and the slow sales of the LiveWire interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYVXcre_dKU

there is nothing wrong with bringing in new people to your brand, or new types of people, but what these woke morons consistently fail to understand is, insulting and alienating half your existing userbase to welcome someone 'new', is not the way to do it.
like the budlight thing, ive talked to many about it, and contrary to the damage control bullshit they tried to spin, nobody really gave a fuck that the kid was a tranny, it's like, ok, not for me, but, no big deal, celebrate who you want, I really don't care. But then they had to turn around and say, well if you don't agree with our ignorance, then you are racist, homophobe, add favorite xeno, ist, phobe, cist insult accusatory word of choice, then the bimbo saying well we are trying to move away from the frat brat and redneck image..
ok now so you just insulted most your customer base. why move away? why not say, you are looking to also include.. the new blood, instead of getting rid of what is your current life blood. your current customers said you don't want my money, fine, see ya!!... you seen how that played out for them, and now harley is trying to say hold my beer.
harley is falling into the same woke trap, and like all the other companies, will go broke from it.
when he is talking about the price of the harley, don't forget all the other long term costs as well. well if you want this, itll cost you another 10 k for a mode 3 upgrade, but they won't tell you, that if you don't upgrade your lower end too... not part of that deal, then you'll ruin this and that.. and then the. well at 30 k, you are going to need an upper end rebuild, at 50k this will need to be overhauled, so on and so forth and they go on like that's just perfectly normal and ok.... why would i want to spend 40k on a bike and all the extra garbage to throw on it, only to have to take an inventory after each ride to see what fell off!! and plan on spending another 20k over the say next 5 years, on planned overhauls... when i can go out and get a sweet ass.. Triumph, as an example of something with similar looks.. for the same money about, and keep good oil and maintenance on it and it'll last 100k or more?? that makes no sense.
harley is expensive to begin with, there is no more brand loyalty to their customers anymore, and they are nickle and diming who they do have left, to death on every little thing. it's going to be a death by 1000 cuts to them.
harley used to represent, what ill call the working class... that is NOT going to get them a bailout from the govt like some other scumbag car company is always getting, so unless they figure something out soon, i give them 3 years and it's lights out. thats being generous.

And now we have a report by Motorcycle.com about drama in the H-D boardroom. There is definitely something strange going on in the Motor Company this year: https://www.motorcycle.com/bikes/news/drama-in-the-boardroom-harley-davidson-board-member-resigns-44620357

they should stick with an odd number of directors. Tie breakers are going to be very dramatic now. Something the company does not need more of.
Harley is done. Outsourcing the blood, the vibe of an Americana product to another country, just is not going to work. Especially a country like Germany who deep down, does not really understand Americanism, and really... hates America and much of what it stands for to begin with. They really never did get over getting their ass kicked in the war. Besides, just look how well overall, Europeanizing has worked for the Anheuser Busch - now inbev, legacy. It pretty much destroyed it, much of it intentionally IMO.
These American legacies are being destroyed out of spite. Ill take the loss just to be rid of it. Just my opinion.

Second picutre down at the link in post 3 shows Willie G in what appears to be a wheelchair with thin arms and fingers. I think the smaller livewire and the Zero design of direct drive with the motor at the swingarm pivot is what I would like. Harley to me kind of means v twin with the fork and blade connecting rods, not sure how many of the new engine designs carry this forward. At one time like after they got away from AMF the stock did great and split a few times.

that might actually help them to go back to some retro, and not screaming with the ratrace of the 'cutting edge'. That was one of the appeals of the old harley, you could work on the thing. now with all this electronic shit, you can't do much of anything anymore.

Germany doesn't hate America. What a spiteful thing to say.

"That was one of the appeals of the old harley, you could work on the thing. now with all this electronic shit, you can't do much of anything anymore."
Try replacing the belt on a Harley. You practically have to take the engine apart to get to it. I started helping a friend with his and couldn't believe we had to remove the primary cover, primary chain, pull the clutch, remove the inner primary cover, remove the oil tank ... it's still apart in his garage because he was so intimidated he quit working on it. Try doing that on the side of the road if your belt breaks.
-
That's all by design. You have to either take it to a dealer who will rob you blind on labor and parts, or you need specialized equipment you can't get or can't afford. Sure i'll sell you a 99 dollar printer, oh by the way, replacing the ink cost 299. After 3 ink cartridges we'll sell you a 100 dollar garbage pail for the waste ink, which we make sure you go thru plenty of.
The second most expensive liquid in the world behind a stripper drink, is printer ink ::) ;D

The Norton was that way too. Not the oil tank though. The transmission input and output shaft are the same (at least in the Norton, one inside the other) so in high gear no transmission gears carry load it is only the primary chain and the rear chain that make the overall gearing. When Harley started with the belt drive they offered a spare belt with a sort of acute V and corresponding other part of the V on the other side of the splice and there were pins to put in until you got to a destination of some sort. I don't know is such a thing is a possibility lately. Have not thought about how the livewire models and belt changing are done.

One thing Zero got almost right - the belt on the Gen3 bikes can be swapped in about 10 minutes :)

That is certainly not true for the Zero Gen 2 models. :(

It seems they actually listened to customer feedback :)

So, do the belts just no warning and pop on you? it's good that you can change them so fast, i wish cars were that easy, some of these serpentine belts geez, but is that really an issue that it just lets loose stranding you or do you generally get warning it's going bad?
aaron
-
Yep, 3x now in 20000 miles. No warning at all.
Cas :)

well that kind of sucks but honestly is right in line with the belts of today with synthetic components. They really don't show wear like the old fashioned ones did, and just go. The worst being the timing belt on cars, do NOT push that one past it's recommended change miles. That'll eat an engine in a heartbeat.

None of my belts were in the slightest bit worn - they just snapped instantly. Two were cases of dealer overtightening (both occurred within 30 miles of having dealer adjust it). Third one was a supposedly new belt shipped to me by that same dealer which was clearly used and therefore of unknown provenance. I expect if they had anything to do with it, it had been overtightened as well at some point.

Sounds like the dealer’s torque wrench had a “repeat customer” setting.
