What range are DSR/X owners getting from a full charge for highway/ motorway riding and mixed riding which doesn’t include highway miles. Does ambient temperature significantly affect range?

Have an SR/F not a DSR/X but I can tell you that ambient temperature affects Zero batteries at a rate of about 1% per degree under 20degC.

For my DSR/X, a very simple rule of thumb is to expect about 1 mile per 1 percent of charge.
Riding between 55 and 60 mph gets me about 90-100 miles with a full charge (charging to 110 percent). Going faster exponentially reduces mileage due to wind resistance.
In my experience, what matters more than temperature is wind--going into a headwind significantly reduces mileage, wind from the back can add 10 percent or more. Other factors related to wind resistance include size of the rider and the metal carrying cases in the back.

1 mile per 1% of SoC is a pretty close indicator when weather is fair. I recently took a 1300 mile road trip in my DSR/X this winter and I was getting about 90 miles from 100% charge. Definitely noticed less impact from the cold (temps were about 35-45F and had a headwind 3 of the 4 days) because I was charging so frequently. Unfortunately I don’t have a charge tank (yet) because I’m still making up my mind from the awareness that the 17.3 battery is handicapped in charging speeds still. Really wish there was a cheaper and smaller solution that added 3 extra kW of charging and didn’t take up most of the tank…

Yes, I keep the range meter off and only look at the SOC% because it is much more accurate.
What I would like to know is how far a DSR/X can usually go below 0% SOC.
I find most electric motorcycles with average riding average around 7 miles (11 KM) per KWH.

Personally I'd love something external. Bring it along and plug it in if I need it, leave it at home if I won't. Same goes for the extra battery actually

Never quite understood why they got rid of the accessory charging port from the gen 3 bikes. I know an extra 1kW of the Delta is pretty pointless on the higher capacity bikes but they could have repackaged a ~6kW charge tank as a home charger.

See that’s what I’m saying - this winter I picked up a 6kW elcon that I’m able to charge my FX at 1C. It was $700 all in and took about a week to get. I couldn’t be happier with an external solution that won’t add weight when I’m not trying to charge fast. I can understand that some things like a charge target and whatnot might be weird if you have an automatic charge control version of the charger (I do - that’s one of the reasons the one I got was so cheap) but I feel like it would be simple to just acknowledge that’s the sort of thing you’ll be giving up, and for the bike to disable that sort of thing as needed.

Personally I'd love something external. Bring it along and plug it in if I need it, leave it at home if I won't.
That's how I charge my 2017 bikes. My SR as high as 8KW and my DS as high as 6.4 KW with my external chargers, one in each side case as needed.

on my sr/s 14.4 with the power tank (18 kw total).
in winter, with a full charge in quiet driving; I have 180 km of autonomy, in summer I do a little more than 200 km with a full charge or 1% for 2 km traveled.
I only do national roads, rather flat (100 km/day).

No, for several reasons. I often need the extra storage space and almost every place I charge up at cannot do more than 7.2 KW. Some cannot even do the full 6.6 KW.
I often need all the storage space I can get for my many trips between Auburn and Reno. I often have many things to bring from one of my houses to the other.
And I normally enjoy the longer charge breaks. I find 6.6 KW charging to be perfect for my needs.

No, for several reasons. I often need the extra storage space and almost every place I charge up at cannot do more than 7.2 KW. Some cannot even do the full 6.6 KW.
I often need all the storage space I can get for my many trips between Auburn and Reno. I often have many things to bring from one of my houses to the other.
And I normally enjoy the longer charge breaks. I find 6.6 KW charging to be perfect for my needs.

Am I missing something? I think in the USA, the additional charger (giving you 12.6 kW rather than 6.6 kW) isn't particularly useful. Using Plugshare I filtered the J-1772 plugs for charging rates from 12 to 17 kW and 0 to 17 kW, and took a screenshot of both in my area of Northern CA.
There were only 34 charging locations for 12 to 17 kW as compared to 248 charging locations for 0 to 17 kW.

But Verdi, NV I am often in on the way to or from Auburn, and the restaurant there can do 10KW with 48-amp Tesla stations that are free to use. But those 48-amp stations are at 207 volts AC so even that is less than 10KW. And that is almost too close to be useful, as it is only 14 miles from here.

In the southern United States where I live we have a lot of level 2 charging stations that can deliver 11 kw to my DSR/X with the rapid charger but the problem is in the hot summer time it’s easy to reach the high battery shutdown temperature of of 120 degrees f and the charging stops. So in the cooler months I look for the higher capacity charging stations but in the summer I don’t.

I guess I didn't filter for Tesla destination chargers with higher output where someone could use a Tesla to J1772 adapter.
And free chargers are nice no matter how close they are. In fact, if they are close enough you can substitute them for home charging. Up until about a week ago a major tech company within walking distance of my home that offered free level 2 and DCFC chargers that the public could access. But last week they started charging 38 cents/kWh. When they were free, the DCFC chargers were usually busy. The level 2 less so. But now when I drive by, their chargers are empty. They are asking too much per kWh. I'm not sure if they subsidize the fee or cut the rate for employees.

I’m curious, what do the surrounding paid DCFC cost? $0.38/kWh is a lot for level 2 but for a DCFC that’s a pretty fair price. Well within average pricing of companies like Electrify America and Tesla.

You are right about 38 cents/kWh being a normal rate for true high speed DCFC. The local Tesla superchargers are 40 to 53 cents/kWh. However, these DCFC chargers are only 50 kW rated. So it isn't like they are really high speed.

Well within reason for a private business who’d rather have the charger available for employees and not the general public. My company did something similar when there were still level 2 in the general parking lot next to the facility - employees had a supplemented cost of $0.08/kWh and everyone else was $0.30/kWh. They did move all the chargers underground when our new badge access parking ramp opened a couple years ago.

The business is actually quite a major international tech company. The CEO was prominently at the Presidential Inauguration yesterday. They have porters in their employee parking lots to shuffle employee cars on and off of chargers which effectively keeps the public out of most of the lots during business hours. On the Chargepoint app, there was always a notation about the chargers being reserved for employees 7AM to 7PM. Last time I was by, there didn't appear to be any porters shuffling cars. I don't know if they are supplementing the cost for employees. There are chargers that can't be accessed by the public and those are also noted to be 38 cents/kWh.

I love having cheap charging at work. I try not to abuse it but it is less expensive than pretty much any other option I have right now, including my home charging which is $0.14/kWh. I wouldn’t be able to commute on my motorcycle to work without it either - no way I’m stopping for a 1 hr charging break on a commute.

I would feel less guilty charging at work if it was cheap, but it’s free here. Makes me feel like I’m stealing from the people that have to pay to fuel up a couple times a week. Having said that, most places that have DC and AC charging, the AC is free, and DCFC is….60c/kwh. Almost as pricey as petrol.

That price for DCFC is becoming the norm on the east coast from what I'm seeing

I have a longtime friend who retired from the KGO radio station in San Francisco a few years ago (before they got out of the all-news talk-show business). He told me that about 10 years ago the company installed three L2 chargers in their gated parking garage in downtown SF. For a couple of years after the chargers were installed they were free to use (first come, first served) and were occupied almost every day by the station's employees who owned EVs. Then the station started to cut operating costs and reverted to making users pay to use the chargers. Once they started doing that, the chargers were never used again and a year later they were removed. And so it goes..... ::)
