Title: P1027 error
Post by: Specter on August 20, 2024, 08:19:15 PM
Well this just sucks.
Have not been riding for a few months due to an injury.  Bike has been sitting in garage, being drooled on and cried upon.  Otherwise I'd be  using the parking assist once a week or so to run it out of the garage so I can work on stuff / roast coffee etc, or whatever, and run back in, and the charge has been kept up as well.

Today my doctor FINALLY cleared me to ride my bike again, so I go to hop on, turn it on, kick the stand up press the button and the fucker throws this error at me  Undefined Error, then a P1027 when I look in diagnostics.  It won't clear.  I figured ok, maybe I need to top off the charge, since sitting may have goofed the battery, nope it will charge for about 30 seconds then fault out again.

This is just my luck.  If it was raining pussies out, Id get one with a dick broke off in it.

Hopefully I won't have to take it into the dealer to fix, but have a feeling Ill be going to orlando in my near future :(

If MIL light is on, cycle the start-up GO sequency 4x to clear the fault which ususally is attributed to wake-up status discrepancy from start-up diagnostic but not really a hard fault condition to worry about...MIL stands for Malfunction Indicator Light and looks like an engine icon.  Not sure of exact code but had similar experience after a long storage interval...

We need more remote support for folks that are far from a dealer.

According to manual P1027 is "Precharge Sequence Failed - Precharge Contactor Open Circuit".
Found this: https://evchargingexplained.com/precharge-and-stuck-contactors-in-hv-system-comprehensive-overview/ on EV Precharging incl. details on stuck open contactors.
There seems to be an internal switch or relay stuck open which prevents that the high voltage system is activated, most probably also the reason why charging fails.
I'm not an EV or electronics engineer, but this sounds bad.

Have you tried a full reset? This seems to activate several relays inside the battery.
Maybe something just needs a mechanical kick to get going again after long period of rest?

Nice find on fault code definition.

Makes sense if asserting pre-charge is done early and times-outs before BMS reports to VCU wake-up status thru Can bus...but why after a long sleep?

All the logic is in BMS for this fault condition and it should illuminate the MIL light until the 4th attempt to restart...if still there then it becomes a worry for sure.

Energica explained it to me once that it's a race at startup to gather status for the diagnostics to pass...huh?

Waiting to hear from OP for update...

How do you do full reset on these bikes?  Haven't had to do that yet.  Thanks and good luck Aaron!

Oh man, that is adding insult to injury.  :(
I hope you and your bike get well soon!

I trust that you tried to reset pressing MODE and SET buttons on the left hand control unit. Normally then the bikes begin to click several times (idk what exactly going on, sounds like relais engaging).

If this is a charge-relating error, you could try as a last resort removing the connector to the charge manager. (sits on top of the inverter, can be assessed by removing the left upper 'tank' fairing). My dealer had to do this when my Ribelle's software hung itself up after a failed DC charge attempt. Maybe worth a try.

Indeed, very frustrating.  Email Chris, if you have not done so already.  You are certainly a VIP customer.

Keep us posted!

Ooh  im so fucking pissed.

I found the problem....

A god damned rat got into the garage, decided to make a nest up under the what would be fuel tank area on the bike and fucking chewed the wire harness in there.  I got most the wires taped up to cover the bare spots on the insulation and the wires that were chewed thru, I got spliced with jumpers.   Unfortunately it looks like this is just ONE BIG harness that goes all over the bike, so no plug and play to fix this one.  There is also a fluid hose that comes off the inverter I guess it is, that got chewed on as well.

The bike starts back up, and seemed to work in park mode to roll it back into the garage, but when I had it in drive mode it made a wierd grumbling mode, almost like single phasing.  I didn't see but hope that little cunt didn't chew thru a main power lead too.  IM balancing the bike out and will take it for a ride to see how it runs IF it runs.

I don't even want to think what that harness is going to cost, the labor alone on that whore is probably going to be a grand, not sure I could do it myself I mean it looks like it is just one major spider web harness for the entire bike up under the cowlings / fairings.

Looking around the garage, there's a nest somewhere else, it seems they chewed thru the rubber gasket under the big door and got in that way.  fuck this shit, im taking the bird for the night and dropping some chemicals, that'll kill anything in there that's alive.  come back the next day put the suit on and clean it up / out.  After that, its time to repurpose the 4160 kitty tickler and electrocute anything that steps within a foot either side of that door.  The problem with rats is, if you see 1 there are 20 more you don't see.  We'll take care of that.

Ill post back later and let you know if I got the bike running or if it's down for the count.  that rumbling didn't feel /sound too good. man this isn't good.

yah it's fucked.

sounds like the thing is single phasing, you can even feel the vibration when you try to accelerate.  The accel is totally shitty too, something is not right, im going to have to tear into it more, see if something else is chewed that I missed or another chewed threw wire i missed.

surprised though that it didn't give some kind of fault on THIS condition though.

Dude...so sorry to hear this...

Make sure to turn off ABS and Traction control as means to determine if motor phase has truely dropped out...the traction drive should inhibit all running in such a case...
Title: Re: P1027 error
Post by: Specter on August 21, 2024, 11:48:20 PM
single phasing is not quite the correct term for it.  the 'lag' is not long enough to be single phase or maybe im grasping at delusional straws because I don't want to come face to face with the facts of this situation here.  It's like a VFD is putting PWM control on it with a lot of dead time in each cycle, or you are  flat spotting the drive signal... anyways.  I found more damage I need to fix when I dug further into it.  There is a module that looks like some sort of motor control temperature based thing that seems to have some sort of resistance bias to it... me wonders if half eaten thru wire may mess with resistance on the thing and cause grief.

This harness, I unfortunately am correct, it's one HUGE spider web that basically goes to everything.  The damage seems centered around a communication connection... of all places.   The harness is going to cost 1300 bucks.  given the intricacy it's twisted thru everything, probably another 1300 in labor.  Im very tempted to file an insurance claim on this, I DO carry full coverage on the bike.  I just man I don't want this fucker sitting in a repair shop for a month.  god dammit.....

as usual it's 2 pm in Florida,  time for the daily summer thunderstorm, so my fixins are done for the time being.  Im going to try tomorrow to see if I can take apart the harness a bit and replace /repair just the individual wires that are damaged if it's possible, it's not like I can do much more damage at this point, the bike is not ridable.

Well this is just crazy.

So the bike is going to end up in the shop im afraid,  there is more shit wrong with it.

so I goto the website to get the dealers info to make an appointment.

Eurocycles of orlando is my dealer.

dealers website is gone,
dealers facebook page is gone / private now

so I try eurocycles of Daytona, because it's the same people who own both of these business'

THEIR site is gone too !

Did eurocycles go out of business?

man, someone does NOT want me to ride my bike !!

Oh what a story. I am truly sorry to hear all of that!

So I guess you are not insured against this kind of damage. Here in our parts it is not uncommon that martens (cute but fierce smallish predators) nest in cars and other enclosures, biting cables and whatnot. So this is often included in our vehicle insurance. But that isn't helping you now - I wish you will manage somehow to repair the cabling. Hopefully your EGO was not chosen as ratfeed as well!

If you go against these f**kers with poisoned bait, choose one with delayed effect, otherwise the rats will recongnize that the bait is not good for them. I have a similar problem with mice since some years now, the trick is to surround the house with bait boxes and get them before they enter.

Maddening.

2 dealerships in NY ceased supporting Energica.   Tough industry.  Hope that did not happen to the shops near you.

Worst case scenario you can ship the bike to a dealer that will fix it for you.

AF1 in TX is not too far from FL.

You will get it fixed.

No they didn't hit my race bike, but now Ill probably fiddle with that, figure a way to hook the lights back up on it swap the plate over and umm. err...

the rat poison, oh I have better ways,  the entire garage went IDLH last night.  today ill be moving shit out of the garage, seeing WHERE they were, cleaning up that mess, and well, ive been wanting to clean the garage anyways,  here's my chance.  get rid of the dead rats and whatever else too.  I also got a possum last night that was bothering my chickens but that one i shot.  Yesterday was a good day for ridding pests.

on the insurance, i have full coverage so the bike SHOULD be covered on this, it's geico though, they are real sleazy but one of the few who will insure bikes so let's see what happens.

the dealers closing, yah that sucks and in a way Energica is kind of responsible.  The bike is so reliable, and maintenance free, that it rarely needs to go to a dealer unless we bugger them up some how.  The dealer is not making a lot of money off repairs / maintenance so keeping them around is a bit of an ask unless they are selling pretty good, which Florida now IS one of the best states for EV sales, right along with California, Washington so there is that.

If it does go into the shop, im probably going to have it beefed up,  I want the brakes on the bike like my EGO has, just stupid stop on a dime fast, and Im thinking of trying that new suspension system that the guy in New England made for the Energica bikes.  It's supposedly really good and not nearly as expensive as the 4k ohlins are, so I could try that out and compare the two.

It never ends, oh well, guess I'll be not riding for another few weeks at last  :'( >:(

Well, it's a no-go on the home fix.  Even though I got the wires spliced and all, the shielding is messed up and it's cross talking for lack of a better word and not running well at all.  I don't want to risk damage to the bike so won't run / play with it anymore.  I did my best but there's something else wrong somewhere else.  Besides that hose is in a tiny ass tight location to get to and around, you REALLY need a jack stand to work on it comfortably, and I don't have one, so....

Insurance claim it is.  To the shop it goes.  F88k F##k,  F3tk   F!!!!!kkkkk

The Energica dealer out here was just bought out by someone else.  They are merging and changing names and all kinds of stuff.  Ok but you supposedly are a BIG name, and you immediately cut the old name, killed the website, with no re directs to the new one or anything like that?

They were real shady shitbags to begin with IMO, every time I've dealt with them, they done me dirty,  lied about stuff, etc. so I really have ZERO confidence in them and really do NOT want to work with them at all if I can help it.  I have heard many people also tell me,  very respectable people (unlike me tee hee hee), that they were not good people and did them wrong as well.

When I used them, They left my bike out in the rain, ruining a set of my track gloves, I had them professionally cleaned but they still are not right.  They stripped out screws in my plastic, cracked the plastic in one area, (im not tearing this shit apart, I have NO business in those areas), and I highly doubt energica is selling a brand new bike with tore up fairings.  Brought the bike in for warranty work, and the item they supposedly fixed / corrected is doing the same thing again.  They tried to screw me bad when they sold me the bike, I have nothing good to say about them.

If I have any word in it, Id rather send the bike to AF1 racing, they always did me very well, or Energica of New England, they always did me good as well. or back to the company in SanFran, which might be where it is going anyways, especially if I am going to be upgrading parts.

This begs me to ask,  ok so the dealer sold out to someone else.  Energica's contract was with person A, can that just transfer over to person B?,  I mean Energica vets their dealerships, can they just swap like that w/o any issues?  In other words is this guy going to KEEP the Energica part of his conglomerate dealership?  I don't want to drop a bike there and then hear, oh we don't support them anymore, and im stuck in limbo, paying thousands of dollars to transport a bike all over the country.

Hopefully, I hear back from Energica Monday or Tuesday so I know how we are going to proceed with this, as I want  NEED to get this bike up and going here asap.  Race season is coming up, I also have a few events I am attending, one of them, thru one of the companies out here who are showing off 'electric stuff'  and have people bring in their electric vehicles to show off.  I got the electric bike and would rather show off the street legal one .vs. the track one since the street one is the one they'd more likely buy!  anyways.  Ill keep you updated as I find out more.

Next step, lets see how Progressive Insurance handles this, will they be decent or scummy as well.

Do you have homeowners insurance?

If your motorcycle insurance does not honor the claim, which may be classified as a complete writeoff, being that the electric bike has had its main wiring destroyed, your homeowner insurance may cover it since it was in your garage, parked, when the damage occurred.

I would push for a total writeoff.  Save the downtime and grief of a complex unspecific repair.

Don't report that you attempted the repair yourself. Restore it to pre-attempt config before an adjuster shows up.

Homeowner insurance covers many things.

Yes I have homeowners and have an umbrella policy on it too.  The money I pay those sob's every year, I should get something out of it.  It's thru USAA so I may give it a whirl and see how it all plays out.  Total writeoff I never thought of but yah that'd work too, just have energica ship a brand new one out to me and offer to dispose of the old, DANGEROUS BATTERY vehicle myself :) to save them the time and effort.

Actually, if the homeowners gets involved, Ill have them pay to fix the garage door too, fix the bottom flap that they ate thru and tore to hell.

My understanding for many years has been that homeowner's insurance does not cover motor vehicles. You need a separate policy for that, even if they suffer damage while in your home's garage. However, I have no idea if that is true for an "umbrella" policy.

I'll be finding that out real quick richard.  I have USAA for home, so we'll see what they say.  They don'tinsure bikes directly but have a deal with progressive and hand off to them for bikes.  Hopefully it won't be a big deal and goes fairly simple for me.  I really don't need any more crap going wrong in life right now...

I'll be sending the bike into Energica to have it fixed.  That is the best option, as there is something else I found that is not working either.  I don't want to dick around and rig some stuff up, I want it fixed right, that is why I have insurance, for times like this.

The insurance, I am getting a quote on shipping the bike but they seem like it's no big deal to them.  We shall see!

Well holy crap, that all moved very quickly.

So, I file the insurance claim,  the company says, someone will call you back within a few days

I then call to get the ball rolling on getting the bike shipped to California, because LOOK,  at the end of the day, I want my damned bike fixed and I don't want to dick around for 2  weeks waiting for an insurance company to finally say, well, ok, we'll cover it's shipping.  because the truth of that is, covered or not, I want my bike fixed and Im  shipping it to get fixed... no matter what.

No problem, get it sorted and they are going to come out friday and get my bike.

Fast forward a few hours.  I get a call from the moving company, im driving, so a bit distracted, got the speakerphone on so it's all good, I hope they don't ask for any numbers because im not able to get them, im driving.  They say, we are going to be in the hood tomorrow, can you have your bike ready to ship tomorrow, otherwise it might be next week, monday ish.  I say, yah ok, sure, im thinking hell yeah!  the sooner the better.  Cool, bike being picked up TODAY.

After hanging up, I'm driving for a few and saying to myself, well that was unexpected, something finally working FOR me for a change....then  I pull my head out of my ass, some oxygen hits my  brain and one of the 2 cells wakes up and I go, umm, hey dipshit??? what about the insurance adjuster?   well kiss my boochie I just  screwed the pooch on this one didn't I.

Luckily I was able to explain to the insurance company, hey man, I am REALLY sorry, I totally brain farted this, they are picking the bike up to ship it in a few hours.  He was like, oh that's no problem, we can just have an adjuster go look at the bike when it gets to California and he can take pictures for us out there.   Oh man, awesome.  This is probably an even better method, because the experts are there, and they can show the insurance adjuster exactly EVERYTHING that got damaged, what does what and why it's so important etc.  Having the people who actually built the bike explain it to them, will probably go a LOT further towards them approving the claim, since it's electric and I am sure it's going to need some justification,  WHY the entire harness?  you can't just do this or that?  type thing.   Its probably going to cost 1500 dollars or so, plus the thing is a massive spider web all over the bike, so you KNOW that's gonna be some hours undoing all those plugs, and tie straps, and tape, and and and.  having them see first hand,  well hopefully it all works out with minimal issues.

Im really hoping they just go, oh, yah it's damaged, simple  fix, here fix it, and sign it off, as there are no lawsuits, no injuries or lawyers or any of that garbage to have to deal with.  This one really should be a no brainer.

Now we wait a week or so for the bike to get there and see what the real prognosis is.  I just pray that all it really is, is just the harness and not a bunch of stuff got fried too by stray voltage going between chewed wires where it don't belong and all.  I know I have had to fix rat chewed on shit at the power plant over the years, and it's absolutely amazing sometimes, how much damage, a few bared wires touching can cause to a control system.
