It looks like Tesla was fibbing a bit when they specified long battery ranges for their cars. ;) See the attached article that was in my newspaper today.

Richard, over time, I think you are going to see that EVERYWHERE with electric vehicles.
Shit, even the gas ones, the 'estimated' mpg is always way high, afterall they want to sell you a vehicle now don't they?
Legally, since they said 'estimated range' that E word, gets them off the hook pretty much. Given the EPA I believe is who set the standard on how it's measured etc etc, they can always claim,well THEY made the standard and we had to abide, otherwise we would have said bla bla. You know the blame game.
TBH when I load my ICE up with crap, the mileage goes about in half. My saturn was getting 23 mpg, when id tow or load it down id get maybe 14 mpg. Umm DUUH...so why do people think that an electric vehicle will be any different, especially when half the clowns don't have a clue how to tow properly to begin with!
That little kicker, YOUR results may vary, is their saving grace. also, somewhere i would put money they have in very tiny print, that specs can change too without notice. They all do that as well.
FWIW boats are the same way. Mine was rated to be able to do 40 mph to 45 mph, I was lucky to get 35 off it, and that's jacked, trimmed etc etc. their story. well we were in 'race mode' ie meaning the boat was pretty much empty, a low center console, anything to reduce drag. Now YOU on a fishing trip, with coolers, cargo and beer, well that's a different story.
look at racing bikes, even having 3 or 4 gallons of gas on the thing is dragging their times out...
They don't like Tesla anymore since he took over Twatter and broke the leftards censorship iron curtain, so are going to try to discredit him any way they can. I always take ANY claims on ANY vehicles to begin with, and any articles on them, both good or bad, with a huge grain of salt. What we don't always see is the authors agenda.
Whatever is advertised, Id expect maybe 75 percent of that, on a good / normal day. Way less if you are actually working the thing now, or its cold out.

Doesn't the APA figure the range for Tesla? It is to be used for comparison to other vehicles.
I have no complaints about the range of my 2018 Tesla M3, AWD LR.

This news report made all of the local SF Bay Area news stations last night. They made it sound worse than the problem likely is. I think there was mention of a class action lawsuit against Tesla for inflating their range claims. I guess it was a slow news day.

It will go nowhere. It's the leftards ongoing war against Tesla now that he took over twatter and won't let them censor differing opinions or hide inconvenient facts on things anymore.
If you look at pretty much ALL EV manu's their mileage claims have some blurb, according to EPA estimates or something along those lines. the EPA states how they need to do the math and then report that number. The word estimated, and your experience may differ etc etc are also in there. Overall this is just designed to cost him money one way or another as 'punishment'.
I would also bet that a good number of ice cars are a bit stretchy on their claims as well if we want to look at them with the same level of scrutiny.
Will be mildly amusing to watch the circus they put up over it.

According to the Tesla Forum, Tesla asked the EPA to LOWER the range of the Telsa RWD models.
The EPA will lower the range estimate just by asking but will never increase the range according to their own findings.
The reason Tesla asked them to LOWER the range of the Telsa RWD model is because the car that costs 5K$ less than the AWD models got the best range. Tesla did not want to claim a lower range for the more expensive car. In reality, the cheaper Tesla RWDs will get around 35 miles more range per charge than the more expensive AWD.

Which is rediculous in a way. Be honest but be creative in your marketing. I mean, look at Starbucks, they took the worst coffee one could possibly buy, they over roasted it to the point where it is burnt oily garbage BUT... because they had an incredibly creative marketing team, AND effective, they fooled millions into believing it was something special and only for them!!!
Tesla could easily do the same thing in a way with their cars, but THIS model, has AWD, but nicer leather, smoother take off, better comfy AC bla bla. Don't lie but brag up what it does have, and suddenly the lower specs in item A category suddenly are not so bad looking anymore.
It's also a no brainer of course the one with TWO motors, ie MORE weight, TWO paths to burn electricity etc is going to use a battery faster, but the trade off is, better traction, faster response, bla bla... Play it tesla PLAY IT.
I bet you could take one of these stupid pocket battery charger thingies, like the 10500 mWatthour portable charging station batteries that look like a pack of cigarettes, tell people it's a range booster for their tesla, plug it into the lighter and it backfeeds over 10K mWATTHOURS back into your electrical distribution motor dispatch system!! Charge them 100 bucks for the thing, and it'd probably fly out the door so fast you'd have to hire 2 more crews to make them.
The reality is, yes technically it will boost the range, maybe get an extra 23 feet out of the thing so no you are not lying but just the big flashy numbers for the sheeple to fixate on, you will be a millionaire overnight.
BaaaAAaAAAAhhhHHh Range... RaaAAAAaAAAAnnngeeeEEE BAAAAaaahhhHHHhh.

I didn't even see the speed, temperature or conditions mentioned.
So much nonsense, Tesla will win this one for sure.
I recall seeing a chart NOT done by Tesla, that shows the range of the Tesla M3 LR RWD to be 438 miles at a steady 38 MPH.
Telsa EV EPA range estimates are lower because they are done at 65 MPH.
If the guy is driving 80 MPH, he is getting great range, then be happy with around 150 miles of range.

Don, I also have a '18 M3 AWD LR. I'm at 30,000 mi. and when set at 100% charge I cannot get above 280 mi. It does not matter if it's a supercharger or a slow L1 charege. I typically charge to 90% giving me about 254 mi. Tesla tells me this is normal battery ageing (30k mi.??) and it considers driving habits. On the hwy I set it at 72 mph. Many times I've taken it below 20% and attempted a 100% charge but nothing changes. Reboot's and all 'net posted "fixes" resolve nothing.
What is your experience? Have you ever done a full 100% charge and see anything over 300 mi.?
I do love the car and I'm fine with the range I get, but there are times when that extra 30-40 mi. would be nice.

A couple of questions. Did you drive below 0 SOC? That is good for around another 30 miles, IIRC. Also, you have to drive at a steady 65 MPH on level ground with no wind and moderate temps to get the spec range.
But no, I have yet to go more than 200 miles on a charge with my Tesla.
But as with all EVs, I can get better or worse than the advertised range depending on many factors. I have never needed as much range as I can get with my Tesla M3 LW, AWD. Since I purchased it new in 2018, I have only done three fast charges on it. Two of those were on an overnight trip (one was when I purchased my Energica in Mt. View, CA) and one of the other charges I didn't even really need, as I could have made it home without it.
I ride motorcycles a lot more than drive cars. My 2018 Tesla has less than 12,000 miles on it.

My 2018 dual motor long range has 65k miles on her. Daily charge limit set to 80%. I have no idea how long I can actually go on a full charge. I have completed 8 trips going from Maryland to Florida and back. (my sister is wife of Florida man). What I do know is the cars range outlasts my bladder and finishes charging before I am ready to continue most times.
One of these days I'll make the trip on the Energica.
I also keep my 2018 Tesla plugged in for 80% SOC. Tesla drops almost 1% SOC per day which is really bad. My 2022 Chevy Bolt drops nothing at all in a month or more. While I have to leave the Tesla plugged in most of the time because of the lack of use, I do not even bother to plug in my Chevy Bolt for the same amount of time unused.
I like the Chevy Bolt better than my Tesla for many reasons, but for a long trip, the Tesla would be best, IMO, as they have the best charging network of all. And a great navigation system to find them.
A few reasons why I like the Bolt better overall, for most of my driving:
1. As I explained above about can leave the car unplugged with no noticeable discharge.
2. Better FOB. Just keep it in my pocket and do anything without pressing a button, open any door, drive, unlike the Tesla where I have to press a button to do anything (and the Tesla FOB costs extra, two FOBS come with the Bolt).
3. Control regen as I drive with a level on the steering wheel. Only on the Bolt.
4. Progressive regen with brake pedal. The harder I brake the more regen (Tesla adds nothing with brake pedal <neither does Energica, but Zero does).
5. KW added or lost shown on screen while driving (Tesla only shows a line, no current KW used or gained on display).
6. Front and rear cameras can be viewed while parking the Chevy Bolt. Only rear on Tesla.
7. Chevy Bolt blind spot indicator is in the mirror, where it is very easy to see. On the Tesla it's on the screen which means take your eyes off the road to view your blind spot. But the Tesla will prevent steering into a car in the blind spot with its accident prevention stuff. And that works very well. Please don't ask how I know. :)
8. The Bolt has a steering wheel heater. The Tesla does not. Both have seat heaters.
I find the Chevy more fun to drive than the Tesla. But they are both great cars, IMO.

It's claimed to be 311 miles but I've never seen over 285. This is a 9% loss in under 30K miles. Tesla claims a 12% loss at 200K miles.

Yes, it is a little less, but that is because of the reserve. You can drive below 0 SOC for several miles. Perhaps for 26 miles in your case. If you count that, you will have your 311 miles.
But IAC, do not expect 100% accuracy with any of this stuff, but it should be close enough to be within reason.

Not really. My 2018 has no resume, but I like the way the right little wheel works on the steering to adjust the cruise control to any speed you like without turning off the cruise control. As good as the interactive cruise control on my Chevy Bolt, IMO.

Yes, that also. In my 2018 LR, AWD Tesla M3, my average "miles of range left" is usually three times the SOC %. IOW, 90 miles of range left at 30% SOC.
The EPA Tesla spec is based on level ground, no wind, 65 MPH. IIRC, the very best range is at 38MPH, then around 420 miles.
