Title: 2024 BMW CE2 electric "motorcycle"
Post by: Richard230 on July 08, 2023, 05:58:24 AM
Here is report regarding BMW's latest electric "motorcycle", the 2014 C02. Not very exciting: https://www.motorcycle.com/bikes/new-model-preview/2024-bmw-ce-02-first-look-44592322

Looks kind of faggy to me, like they took a minibike and fed it some crystal meth and some steroids.
From BMW who calls themselves a 'Very Premium' vehicle, Id have expected MUCH more than that ffs!!

Bicycle maybe, Bike... when looking at some of the sleek beauties out there now,  I'll pass, especially considering that being BMW you know it's price tag is probably going to be 10k more, for the name.

Edit:  Upon a second look, those things are like a childs toy, it's pitiful.

So far, Zero, Energica and Harley Davidson have NOTHING to fear from Germany.

It definitely is a motorcycle, no need to put it in quotation marks. And personally I like the styling of the CE-02 and 04, the Cyberpunk look. Resorting to homophobia and calling it a faggy toy is a bit harsh.

The big issue is it's too much money for not enough bike. I couldn't see it on their site but MCN says it starts at £7.5k for a 2kW/h battery, £8.5k for 4kW/h. You can pick up a lightly used "11kW" (same as the CE-02) Zero for that which will have 3 times the peak power (86mph instead of being stuck at 60), faster charging, and 7.2kW/h. Maybe in a few years time when used beemers are on the market for like £5k it might be worth considering.

Here is another article regarding the 2024 BMW CE 02. Definitely a "city bike" but it does look well built:  https://thepack.news/bmw-motorrad-usa-presents-the-new-2024-bmw-ce-02/

It is very nice and all but so woefully lacking in both range and charging speed, especially considering its price, that I cannot think of anyone sane that would buy one over a Zero. Which is sort of the problem with the CE-04 too which only beats Zero on two fronts (it's a scooter, so it's got built in helmet storage, and it looks awesome).

I actually think BMW are being pretty smart with what they're doing. The pricing is a little off but they're putting out bikes designed to play to the strengths of electrics before they tackle the hard stuff. If you think for a moment BMW aren't playing a long game with these machines you are definitely wrong, they'll be building expertise around electric motorbikes while bringing over technology, knowhow, and most importantly supply chain availability from their car division. I'm not a BMW guy but when they do decide to launch a large electric road bike it's going to be a very serious proposition partially because they're tooling around with this stuff now.

I have BMW noted down as one my favourite to bring the next big leap in BEV motorbike tech, they have the supply chains to drop a solid state active thermal management battery into an appropriate frame and that will change the market significantly. Second fav incidentally is Ducati because they have daddy Volkswagen to crib from.

BMW dips its toe into the city commuter electric motorcycle arena. Lots of Chinese competition in that market. It looks like they are trying to keep the cost down by having it manufactured in India: https://electrek.co/2023/10/12/bmw-begins-production-of-its-lowest-cost-electric-motorcycle-yet/

Compared to ... well, their other offerings :) ... it represents somewhat better value for money doesn't it? But realistically it's still twice as expensive as anything else competing in that market and there are some way cheaper BEVs too like the Super Socos and NIUs and even that new Segway.

I dunno, it's the same price as those new Kawis but with the specs they should have had out of the box.
