Title: Ford EV owners to get access to Tesla Supercharger network
Post by: Richard230 on May 29, 2023, 07:46:59 PM
That is the title of an AP article published in my newspaper yesterday. According to the article all Ford EVs, both current and future models, will have access to about 12K Supercharger stations in the U.S. and Canada, starting in the spring. There will be a cost to Ford owners, perhaps a monthly subscription, but no details have been released yet.

At first, Ford's current EVs will need an adapter to hook into Tesla stations, but Ford will switch to Tesla's NA Charging Standard connector with is ts second-generation EVs starting in 2025. They will join Ford's 10K Blue Oval charging network. Ford EV owners will be able to access all of the 17K Tesla chargers seamlessly with Ford's app, according to Elon Musk.

Waah  worthless fat bloated lazy UN innovative GM files anti monopoly lawsuit in  3....2.....1....

Sounds like a good idea, but I really HATE this whole concept of nobody owns anything anymore, it's all rented / leased / subscription etc.   I get it, elon needs to profit too and this IS a great idea but just another tether that makes one beholden to someone else.  Why not just I drive up, I use a CC and pay for it without having to subscribe?  You still get my money.

If elon was really smart, he'd sell the damned adapter as a subscription.  You pay 99 dollars for the plug adapter that fits between you and my charger, and 5 bucks a month for the subscription service, that way anyone and EVERYONE can use it, he taps the entire market and not just Ford.  It would also squash any potential anti trust suits too.

I bet it wouldn't take long for the Chinese to copy the $99 plug adapter and sell it on eBay for $9.    ;)

It's funny you said that Richard,  I just asked Setek  today if they had an adapter for that and their reply was, there'd be no money in it, that there's enough CCS chargers around to just find one.   Doesn't elon's charger need to see the cars serial number or some other dumb thing too to activate?  If he's in bed with ford, I can see that being baked in too.

What nonsense. No way can I ride my Experia to Susanville and back. But they do have a Tesla Supercharger there. No CCS.

And then there is Lake Topaz, NV. A great location for charging. But only Tesla Superchargers there. No CCS, no J-1772.

Many such places where they only have Tesla SC and nothing else.

Just install the Tesla App on your Smartphone and select "Charge your NON-Tesla". A rather recent change and has quite a ways to go. But the Tesla Superchargers no longer need to read the VIN, except on Telsas. If you have the Tesla App., you can activate the SC after you set up your account as then they know who you are.

Since I already own a Tesla, I was ready to go (nothing more for me to set up) and have used the Magic Dock in Placerville, CA. But Tesla has a long way to go to get to them all.

Now GM has jumped on the Tesla Supercharger bandwagon. They will join Ford in adopting Tesla as the standard for charging their future vehicles and even their current EVs once they can be updated with new charging connectors. The news media believes that the Tesla charging system will eventually be the new standard in the U.S. in the future according to news reports yesterday.

Honestly I think this is a great news, the NACS charge port design is far superior and much more thought out than the CCS standard (I cant believe that massive plug actually went through enough approvals to become a standard). Also independent CCS chargers have a terrible reliability track record and pulling up to a Tesla charger would give me a really good feeling that it was just going to work.

If Zero adopted this standard too, they would get a 11+kw feed out of the box instead of being capped at ~6.6 by Chargepoint just for L2 charging. That would be great for 12kw on board chargers. I couldn't find any documentation on the minimum voltage the Tesla fast chargers will accommodate, but Zero wouldn't need to change the connector to adopt DCFC later in the future if they found the superchargers could go that low, or they could somehow do a contactor arrangement to move from 28s4p to 112s only while charging.

Honestly I think this is a great news,
Or could be bad news if Tesla SCs are not made compatible with the many CCS EVs we now have because of this new standard.

Personally, Id love to see the tesla chargers come with a 'change' so it has an additional cord for CCS-1 which IS the current standard in the USA.  Honestly the cord is what, 100 dollars IF that in bulk, and look at the market it would open up for him to use HIS product, and put the profits in HIS pockets!!

The CCS1 is so bulky because it was made to be an 'all in one' type thing.  Not the greatest, because once they throw the heavy current DC's onto the bottom, they still need the top for the comms!!.   This leaves the 2 to 3 AC plugs up there unused now.

Id LOVE to see a combo where you can get your DC fast charge, AND it's bringing in the AC thru the top part as well!!  Throw an extra 10 kw or whatever you can on top of the DC.  Then finish off with the AC as your trickle balance.  Either way all the extra 'stuff' is not wasted now and it does make your time there shorter!

The only problem is nobody has settled on a 'world standard' comms protocol, which IMHO is what they ALL need to sit down and do.  Make a one size works anywhere, THEN each can go their way with what they wan't to do with their plug / brands form factor etc.

Eventually electric chargers will be everywhere but until they do, wouldn't you want YOUR brand, which is the most versatile, be the one that saturates the market?   My eyes are watering, give me a kleenex.  Ok I just named the BRAND NOT THE PRODUCT !!  I'd want that if I was the market guru.

The problem is, everyone else uses the CCS standard.  Does Tesla combine AC charging and DC in it's plug?  No? Well CCS does, which allows people to charge at home with a rather simple plug instead of having to shit out an extra 4 to 6k for a DC fast charger.  All this really does is play the forced obsolescence game with those who already bought products from Ford / GM and the likes.  GM shitting on it's customers is nothing new but still.
If you want to make the tesla plug the standard then fine, how about then, making the plug ON the vehicle a standard plug then where you just plug a damned standard electric extension cord in for your home AC charging and the vehicle takes care of the rest w/o all the BS of the Box and J plug then?

Yes. I AC charge my Tesla at home with the same plug as their DC superchargers.

Telsa Destination stations (and Tesla Wall Connectors)  are the Tesla versions of the J-1772s. And most Tesla Destination stations are higher power than most J-1772. 12 and 14 KW AC charging is common with Tesla. Rare with J-1772. 8KW is the lowest Tesla AC stn I have ever seen used anywhere. There are some J-1772s that can only do 3 KW. And some with two plugs share the power.  However, there are 70-Amp (16.8 KW)  J-plugs here. (https://www.plugshare.com/location/44582) Very, very rare.

It looks like a standard was finally agreed on. I just hope they have a way for the older vehicles to use Tesla Superchargers. The Magic Dock idea is unlikely to get anywhere fast.

BTW, I have charged my Energica motorcycles with Tesla Wall Connectors, with one Tesla Supercharger (using the Magic Dock) and countless Tesla Destination stations  on the road. Same plug on all. Here is an example. (https://www.plugshare.com/location/124842)  But I do need to use a Tesla-Tap with it. Note that I also charged my Zero SR at 8KW (the limit of the AC Tesla Destination Station they use there) just two days ago.

Here is another example.  (https://www.plugshare.com/location/287706) I use Tesla AC charging about as much as J-1772.

IMO, I may live to see the day when the Tesla connector is used on Energica motorcycles directly.

It's clear Tesla won this one. The most reliable charging network out there by far. Best maintained. They deserve to win this one.

At the end of the day the charging stations ideally will ALL use the same damned plugs, and just be fighting for your  business over features / price.  Just like you can pick what brand gasoline you use, it ALL is at the same standards and works the same way.

They have a Tesla charging station out here it has like 8 pull ins to charge at but all have the goofy tesla plug.  What would I need to plug that goofy plug into my energica?  I have not looked for 'magic dock' yet but so far have found pretty much nothing to go from Tesla to CCS-1 however plenty to charge your tesla, with CCS-1

If you're asking about Tesla SuperChargers, you are most likely out of luck for now. There are several Magic Docks in NY state and two in all of CA. And that is all for now.

But if you're asking about the small Tesla Destination Station (TDS), that look like my attached file here, then all you need is one of these thingies.  (https://www.amazon.com/Tesla-J1772-Adapter-Destination-Connector/dp/B0BXKFBKBD/ref=sr_1_31?crid=2C2KHU27S23ZA&keywords=tesla+tap&qid=1686451982&sprefix=tesla+tap%2Caps%2C184&sr=8-31&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.18630bbb-fcbb-42f8-9767-857e17e03685)

The way to use it is to connect it to the TDS withOUT the bike for at least two minutes. Then connect it up to charge.

Don't believe the 30-second wait time, they all say that and I have NEVER gotten one to work after only 30 seconds. And I have more of them than I can count that I have tried. Two minutes or longer with no load.

BTW, I have noticed many older 14 KW Tesla Charge Stations will only charge for ten minutes and then go to red and need to be reset. Try to avoid the 14KW Tesla AC Charge stations where possible.  But even those will work if you come back every ten minutes to reset them. The 12KW and the 8KW TDS I never had any issues with. Work as well as a J-1772 if you do not count the short wait for the TDS to switch to a J-plug mode.

The TDC must show a green light in front. That light will move when you have charging. If it changes to red, charging stops. You then have to start all over again, including the two-minute wait. The reset button is on the side of the TDS. Hold it in for five seconds to reset and the red should go to green.

By far, in most cases there will be no problem at all, unless your stuck with the 14KW units. The units say the wattage, and so does Plugshare. (https://www.plugshare.com/)

Ok, so that thing will let you use the AC part of the tesla station.  Unfortunately still only 15 amps as that is all Energica will allow.  It's better than nothing in a pinch tho i guess if you  need a charge.  An hour will push you another 20 miles or so.

I may have to see if I can borrow one and see if it works around here on these stations.  They seem to be the plug with just the tesla two prong thing on them.  I'll have to take a picture next time i see one to show you

In response to my posting the above article on a BMW motorcycle forum I received this interesting response from a Tesla owner:

Inevitable. Before the Model S went into production Tesla tried to give the ANSI committee their NACS Supercharging technology as a standard but the short sighted committee members didn't believe there would be a need for fast DC charging of consumer EVs. Also they feared putting AC and DC on the same pins of Tesla's elegant connector.

DC requires heavier and more expensive switches to break contact. No matter neither J1772 nor NACS puts power on the pins until after a secure safe connection and communication with vehicle has been established, they were afraid they would have to use DC qualified components even when not implementing DC charging.

Years later the committee invented the bastardized CCS connector, grafting extra pins on the side of the already awkward J1772 connector. Everyone hates the CCS connector. Not to mention the unreliable government backed Electrify America "charging" network.

Tesla speaks J1772 on the elegant NACS connector for AC charging. But extends that to recognize a Supercharger has been connected, then speaks Supercharger protocol which includes vehicle ID so there is no messy app or credit card. Billing info appears on the console in-vehicle.

The CCS protocol, if you look at it, is really sleazy too, some old, no longer relevant engineer from the 60's decided to use HIS technology to make this thing work by golly, because well in a nuclear war, the CCS charger will be OK !!  As long as you have a pots phone to speak to it with !!

Whenever you get government involved, you always get some horrible shit as an outcome.  Remember, they are working on job security, they are NOT the best and brightest minds, the smart people work everywhere BUT government for 5x the pay.

Hell, CCS  has 3 big connectors on it, make it 3 phase and almost double the power it can deliver.

the stations by me are just like pylons sticking out. No screens or buttons on them really.  name plate says 500 volt 350 amp so am guessing it's a superstation type setup.  Here is what the plug looks like, so ill probably have to get the app to activate it before being able to plug it in... shrug..  i might spend next weekend playing here see what I can fiddle out.

You can buy them at much higher current ratings. I linked to a cheap one because the Energicas only have a 3 KW charger.

Here, I often use a 60-amp Tesla to J-1772 adapter. I have a Tesla Wall Connector and I charge my 2017 Zero SR as high as 10KW (external chargers) and I also use it on my 2022 Chevy Bolt, which has a 12 KW charger. But I keep a 3-KW Tesla to J-1772 adapter in both my Energicas.

It would be nice if the Energicas had 6 KW AC charging, but even the 3KW is useful for a long break. But I take my Zero SR if I am in an area with only J-1772 and Tesla AC stations and charge it as high as 8 KW when on the road.

So that is a supercharger station?   Maybe I'll have to join  Twatter to bitch at Elon Musk to change the things so they CAN be activated by phone or something.

Ive also been dinging Energica about the 3kw charger too, I mean shit, pretty much ANY standard 240 outlet in the US is breakered at 30 amp or more.  Many 50.  The Range, The Dryer, The Air Handler if you have 'Emergency Heat' on your thermostat to kick in a 10 KW heating coil.  They ARE there!   There are also extension cords you can buy too,  extremely Fkn expensive, which I don't get, maybe they consider it niche still, but ARE available.  You can easily make your own too, MUCH CHEAPER, which I have for my Commercial Coffee Roaster.  Bitch will pull 60 amps all day off the 50 Amp range plug w/o problems or heating issues.
Though I absolutely can NOT recommend doing that to a normal person, 50 amps is absolutely doable.  ie 12 KW.
Let's pull 10 amps less to be safe and to account for older houses bla bla.  that's 9.6 Kw.  STILL very impressive for a standard out of the wall small ass DC charger!!

A quick piggy back of the charger IN there would give the Energica 7.2 KW.  ie 30 Amp, lets say it's a 35 amp draw to be safe.  Cupcake time !!!  Using THEIR existing software etc etc. it'd be limited to say 30 amp, in reality probably about 25 amp.  ie 6 KW. ABSOLUTELY DOABLE AND A MARKET SETTER FOR BIKES !!!

If the rider has the option like we do now of changing charging value, we can tweak it down to say 24 or 23 amps to suit our individual outlets.

Energica you need to offer this upgrade! even if you charged a bit more for it, many would GO FOR IT !!
You need to give me one since it was MY idea to do so, :)  :P  , Ill prototype it, and in return I would run all over Florida, testing the thing out and giving you valuable feedback on it's workability!

Just saying

So that is a supercharger station?
Magic Dock is a thingy that is installed to a few Tesla Superchargers in the USA. Does most people no good, unless Tesla does all or at least most of them. For now, perhaps best you never even heard about Magic Dock, if you're in Florida. There are NONE installed in Florida. And it is not a thing you can buy. So best to just forget it exists, at least for now. IMO, the Tesla Superchargers are likewise useless to our Energicas, even where they did install the Magic Dock. Can only get 9 KW charging to our Energicas and AFAIK, they are all close to other real CCS chargers where you can charge above 20 KW. So the Tesla SC and Magic Dock is useless to us for now. But let's hope that changes soon.

The Superchargers are tall, you cannot miss them. About the same size as a CCS charger.

The Tesla Wall Connectors and Tesla Destination charge stations are very small. Smaller than a J-1772 station, yet often have more power available.

See photos of each below. The small ones can be used on any Energica, with the Tesla-Tap. The Tesla-Tap will not work with Tesla Superchargers.

There are now eight Magic Docs in NY state, two in CA. A total of ten in the entire USA.

AFAIK, none have been added since March.

Yep, these are the super chargers then.  Oh well.
The reason I was looking at them was because there really are NOT a lot of CCS chargers around here.  Yes a company here and there may have a J charger but most of them are OOC or what I could plug in and do at home.

That will change here soon hopefully.
I am getting 30 KW DC fast charger delivered to my home here when it shows up, hopefully another few weeks as it's being custom built for me.  It will be semi portable meaning I can take it to the track with me when I decide to go for a whirl on the fun bike I am soon getting !! :D:D

I will probably put it on the plug share network and offer to share it with others, (not that there are a hell of a lot of people around here mind you that are not tesla snobs, but hey, what a way to meet them.  Here, grab a charge,  OH hey, I roast my own coffee, and sell it and green coffee too!!  Have a cup while you are waiting, lets shoot the bull and plan a ride somewhere or something !

I think you guys are missing the bigger issue here.

Things I don't need to pump gas:

A move towards making NACS and Superchargers the standard is a move away from being able to just rock up to a charging station, tap your credit card, and charge. It's a move towards not being able to just charge when you need it most (ie, in adverse conditions), and a move towards further corporate tracking (don't seem so concerned when it isn't the government Specter, do you?).

No credit card reader, no custom.

Yeah, some good points. I don't like to use my Smartphone at charge stations. We also cannot have too much sunlight and other issues. I prefer to use the cards. Even if a credit card. I don't like to use Electrify America unless they have a working credit card reader. They and Tesla do not have their own card, unlike most of the others.

And it was a hassle to activate the Tesla Supercharger with the Magic Doc in Placerville, CA.

But I always managed to get the job done when I had to use a Smartphone.

But a much bigger issue is to not be able to charge at all, because no chargers in the area you're trying to get to.

It's better to have to hassle with a Smartphone (mine is normally off and takes a while to boot up) than to have no charging available.

BTW, the best charging system of all is to use a Tesla Supercharger on a Tesla. Only one button to open your charge door by wireless, then plug in and walk away. Cannot be made any easier than that. Perhaps has a lot to do with why Tesla is the most common EV on the road.

Your smart phone is not off, because you pushed the off button.
You may like to think it's off but it's not.
Unless you totally remove the battery, which very few allow you to do anymore, it's NOT off.

Since you all are so worried about corporate tracking and all, so better update your Fakebook status for the 23rd time today about privacy and warn everyone,  but of course ONLY after you gave your 5 minute video tour of the new lay of the rug since you ran the automatic self tracking and navitgating vaccuum up the stairs, and warn about how someone can get your e mail address without your consent!  Ooh, I think Amazon has something for that, oh wait, they sent me a message, .. yep, they seen me typing this and let me know they Do have something, I just need to click the button and it'll be here tomorrow morning.  Seems the roomba was spying over my shoulder and Alexa can tell which keys I tapped by the unique signature each one makes and they knew what I needed before I even knew what I needed !!!

Still need an account to get gas after hours, it's called a Credit Card Account.  Unless you want to pre pay, so they can hold your money for you.  I will pretty much about guarantee that Tesla will probably jump on that bandwagon very quickly themselves, I mean what is NOT to like about being able to use other people's money, interest free!

By the way, you ARE aware that part of some of the anti fraud measures your credit card companies use is to ding your phone for a quick GPS location, to help verify you are actually AT that store that just rang up the 400 charge on your card right?

You are being tracked by EVERYONE, like it or not, and don't get all pissy about entity A .vs. entity B, because they all share the fkn data they got on you, or sell it to each other.

how those youtube uploads going?

Hey @Specter, where is "around here" that there arent many people or chargers. I'm always looking for destinations for an out of the way road trip.

As far as NACS and needing app, phone, and signal....if you have a tesla account (not necessarily the app, but maybe a desktop based Tesla dot com account) isn't part of the NACS handshake the vehicle ID?

So like you roll up, plug in and start charging? The billing and everything is done in the background based on your account settings from the handshake, right?

The payment collection hardware is a constant point of failure with current chargers and an easy target for angry ICE'ers. The supercharger design that eliminates that is a main reason for the Supercharger Network being the gold standard for useability and reliability.

Hey Buddy:

'Around here' would be North / NorthWest Jacksonville Florida.

There is a tesla super charger station, and if you look at some of the apps,  they show charging stations here and there but many of them are at like car dealers etc, so not totally public, it's in their service area etc.

There are a number of J-chargers but sadly, a good number of them have been reported as OOC.

Im half tempted to opena little coffee shop,  my home roasted coffee while you wait for your car to fast charge.  Maybe get a decent cook so  you can get some grub too, who knows!   I wonder how helpful the govt rebates really are and how hard they are to get.  Reading thru some of the pre requisites, it seems like unless you are in the smack dab middle of the hood or the desert, you probably don't qualify for much..

Your smart phone is not off, because you pushed the off button.
You may like to think it's off but it's not.
Unless you totally remove the battery, which very few allow you to do anymore, it's NOT off.
Arron,

I am very aware that cell phones do not totally turn off. Neither do trunking transceivers. I was an Emergency Radio Systems Technician for 35 years before I retired. While the GPS will be off (in most cases, I think), the data bursts for control is still there and that can be tracked by Cell Tower Triangulation. But what I was referring to is the bootup time it takes for me to use my cell. I don't even care if I am tracked. Nothing to hide. But I realize a lot of criminals get busted that way, thinking they are safe if they do not use their cell that they have with them. Like you say the safe way is to remove the battery when possible. But my new cell does not allow that. My old one did, and I kept the battery out, not to avoid being tracked, but the cell battery charge would then last a full month, unlike the few days when the battery was in with the phone off.

I only use my cell for outgoing messages when I must, rarely for anything else. I average less than six calls per year. Kinda like my inReach. (https://www.garmin.com/en-US/c/outdoor-recreation/satellite-communicators/) Rarely use it, but it sure is handy when it is needed.

Even when it is 'off' your phone can have it's GPS, microphone, camera turned on to take a quick picture, location or voice recording and send it off...somewhere.

I have a friend with a letter agency, they do it all the time with drug dealers to help track and build cases to later bust them.

Hell, even the damned street lights all have 1080P cameras built right into them now to watch you go fromlight pole to light pole as you drive.  They don't even need to do that.  Ooh hey a crime happened at 9 pm on 5th and main.  To get YOUR record they'd need a search warrant, to get a radius log or a ping log, they just need to ask, hey we got a crime scene can we get a list of the phones that pinged within 5 miles of this location at 9 pm last night, then they weed out from there.

It's all too easy.

Oh and BTW you can buy a stinger for about 800 bucks if you know where to look.  They are pretty awesome devices.

Yeah, these days assume you're on camera everywhere.

But not all the cellphones are designed the same way such as if the GPS is on or off when the phone is off. But can probably be controlled remotely. Part of my job was to "brick" stolen portable police radios--so they will never turn on again until I give the command to unbrick. A little different than cell phones, but not by a whole lot. So yeah, a lot can be controlled remotely. These did not have a GPS in them. But perhaps it is an option these days in police radios. It's been ten years and things change a lot in ten years.

Our city radios were the same way.  The motorola that weighed like 4 lbs, but those things were almost indestructable.  Mine got hung up on a ladder once and took a 35 foot drop to limestone.  it bounced and was fine.  The only thing I did not like with those radios was the freq they used,  220 Mhz is terrible for penetration in buildings, and really wish they'd have gone with the 400 / 440 mhz bands.

But yah if one got stolen they'd put the 'call' out and the moment the radio turned on and bleeped a repeater, which is the first thing they did when turned on, it'd kill it.

We used the 800 MHZ band in San Francisco (where I worked). Trunked Simulcast. Mortola SmartNet. (https://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Motorola_Type_II_Smartnet)

A whole bunch of stuff has GPS in it now, it's literally just a tiny chip nowadays.

We had an incident, they put a keyfob that looked like a typical start the vehicle fob in our vehicle, BUT being Union dumb asses.  They did not explain what it was to ANY of us.

Me and my partner are driving between plants, running parts to get ready to fix some stuff because the generator tripped earlier in the day and I am like, oh this old POS has electric doors and start now?  I push the  buttons, nothing happens.  My buddy looks at it and says it looks like a ChevyFob and these are Fords, I wonder if someone left it here, chirp it and see if anyone's alarms go off in the parking lot so we can tell them, Hey, I got your keys in the truck / shop etc.  He pushes it, nothing.

We go about our way.  About 10 minutes later, we are being followed by a few cars, then 2 marked cops show up and are following us.  Ok, not really paying attention.  Next thing you know one of them pulls in front of us,two jump out guns drawn, GET OUT OF THE TRUCK!  We comply.

It turns out the Fkn fobs were their new, "Emergency Panic Warning System"  Pressing the Keyfob activates an emergency signal basically saying you are being Robbed, Car Jacked, Assaulted, in Dire need of help.  I work for the power company, and yes sadly from time to time our people DID get assaulted out in the field.  It had a built in GPS, that tied into the city system, and our vehicles also had tracking on them so your manager could look at a map and see at any time where you were, how fast you are driving etc etc.  (Which is why most of us would just take our personal vehicles and just take the gas money per mileage)

After a few minutes we got it all sorted out.  Plus side, yes they showed up REAL FAST.  Down Side, jesus F... what if one of the cops got a bit over anxious and someone got shot?  You basically broadcast Felons Stole Vehicle / Kidnapping in Progress to them !!

The amount of tracking is just crazy, and everything has it now.  Makes it easier for big brother to watch you w/o needing those pesky search warrants, and probably cause and all that other tedious gets in the way stuff.

That is old news. The only thing I really want to know is when I can charge up my Energicas from the Tesla Supercharger at Lake Topaz, NV, Incline Village, NV (the only CCS there has been dead for 8 months, right next to a dozen or so working Tesla SuperChargers) and in Susanville, CA and a few dozen other places there they only have Tesla Superchargers and nothing else.

I could not care less about them having the Magic Dock in Placerville, CA where I can charge three times faster a half mile away.

I heard this morning on the financial news that Electrify America will be jumping on the Tesla charging network bandwagon and will be offering a Tesla connector option on their existing and new charging stations starting in 2025.

Richard, the ONLY reason I don't see one now, my theory is, patents and money making.
Tesla already said he is going to 'Electrify America' with his chargers.  Let him do the leg work, THEN let someone else do all the other work, let THEM design an adapter to let the rest of the world use his chargers.  Read between the lines.  Let THEM spend the R and D for the adapters, Let THEM take on the liability if something goes woof.  He can charge them, say a 5 dollar royalty for every one they sell and make millions easily.

Ive looked all over for one for my bike to use on the Tesla super chargers since that's the closest thing to me, to no avail really.
They WILL SELL once they are made available.  Even if Tesla does not get any money from the adapters themselves, using HIS chargers, he will make the money from that.  If everyone is adapting to HIS product, HE then becomes the standard, and standard bearer.  Everyone else does  not necessarily have to change THEIR design, and make any other CCS chargers obsolete / unusable, (which could also open him up to monopoly crying from the scumbags in the legal world), they just simply need to offer the 89 dollar adapter to make your car chargeable with the CCS  AND his.  It's brilliant really, he's getting long term contracts with all the major manu's and setting his seat early.

I am happy to see this, the more they make it simpler for an E vehicle driver to fill up, the quicker people can adapt and make the change.

I assume they will all be doing such one of these years, if they want to stay in the charging business.  The Tesla connector will be the new standard and CCS will fade away as did CHAdeMO.

J-1772 is less of an issue because the AC adapters are cheap and very common, unlike the high-power DC adapters.

It probably won't be long before we have a Tesla to CCS adapter for the older vehicles (like my 2023 Energica Experia!)

I want to know when Energica will offer us a NACS outlet refit option (along with a software update). I may give an arm and/or leg for that.

I think you will soon find a Tesla Supercharger to CCS adapter available for non-Tesla. I would guess within the next few months. Yeah, I would be willing to pay at least a thousand bucks for one.

You can get on the waiting list here (https://evadept.com/tesla-supercharger-to-ccs-adapter-guide/), with your email.

See:

"Where can I buy a Tesla to CCS adapter?"

It is just above where you enter your email, about halfway down the page.

I would rather have an adapter than a refit.  Why lock your bike into tesla chargers and lock out CCS now?  With an adapter you can have the best of both worlds.

I would rather have one less thing to carry around and worry about on a motorcycle.

Plus, this just in...Verge announces it will be entering the US market and use NACS.

That's good to hear, lets get some real competition going here and let the price wars begin!!

I wonder with all the bike manu's and all the automakers now getting access to his stations, if Elon is still going to come out with an electric bike and truck?  i know the truck of his I seen a few years ago just looked horrible!  Hopefully he ditches the box look and puts out something with a bit more style.
