Hey, I did a few readings on my 2018 SR + CT, so "14.4kwh", 18000km / 11000 miles, and the results makes me curious.
so I checked the trip average consumption on the dash, ran it to 0% (real dead, relay open, "engine" check light), and the result was 7820wh (238.4km, 32.8wh/km (148mi, 52.7wh/mi)).
It seems low but the temperature was pretty low the whole time, 0°C to 10°C, stored at ~12°c (32°F, 50°F, 53.6°F)
I then charged the bike on a 2.2kw j1772 wall adapter with an energy measure thing, and it reported 12.51KWh after completely charging.
I know the 14.4 figure is completely exaggerated but I'm surprised by the huge difference between my two values.
I don't think the charge tank has a 60% efficiency at that power, as it was barely warm at the end. I don't think it blew 4kwh of heat.
Maybe the consumption reported by the bike is very underestimated ?
In any case, if you have any input about this, I'm very curious to understand a bit more. Thanks !

And we have isolated the source of confusion.

Let me try to interject some sanity into this before it gets too derailed.
You are converting AC from your wall into DC to charge your battery.... that costs energy to do that.
You are changing the voltage of the energy from your wall to MAKE it charge your battery.... that costs energy to do that.
These processes are NOT EFFICIENT.... at least, not at the prices YOUR cheap ass is paying for a charger to do so !!!
Your battery may be 10 KW down in charge but by the time you get done playing around with crap, you will spend 14 kw or so to charge it up to that 10 kw it needs.
Even if you 'fast charge' it at a DC station. It STILL needs to be converted from AC to DC and to the DC voltage YOU NEED to charge your battery.....
THAT COSTS ENERGY TO DO SO.....

The chargers are like 90% efficient (just a rough number, I can't be bothered to look for the exact specs), so you wouldn't even lose 2kW/h
MVetter is correct. To clarify the average consumption isn't the average over the whole trip, it's an average over a certain period of time. The ending of that trip could have been more efficient than the rest, lower speeds, flatter terrain, more sedate riding.
