Title: 2022/23 Zero SR vs SR/F - Bosch MSC Traction Control Differences
Post by: theoutsider on February 02, 2023, 12:10:32 AM
Does anyone know the differences between the traction control features included on the 2022/3 SR vs SR/F? I was considering buying the Performance upgrade via Cypher Store, but wanted to really understand how much better it is.

I was reading somewhere that the SR is missing the Cornering ABS. From reading the Bosch MSC sales sheets, the MSC Base system is also missing ABS Combined Braking (activates both front and rear brakes in case the rider isn't able to hit both brakes at the same time).

Does anyone have a more definitive answer?

I posed the question to Zero and here's their reply:

"Your 2022 SR is equipped with Bosch ABS with the option to upgrade to Advance Motorcycle Stability control in the Cypher Store with the Performance Boost Upgrade.

With upgrading to the Advance MSC, this will have the full performance capabilities, resulting in best-in-class straight-line ABS and cornering brake control, traction control, and drag torque control.

If you decide to purchase the performance boost upgrade, you will need to bring your motorcycle to your preferred authorized Zero Dealership as they will need to connect to your motorcycle to enable the boost upgrade using their dealer tool."

So if I parse this out, you get Cornering ABS and Drag Torque Control. Traction control (MTC in the owners manual) is already included. It's unfortunate that Zero didn't include these safety-related features with the base motorcycle and instead bundled them with the Performance upgrade. If the Advance MSC was offered alone (for less money of course), I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I honestly don't need the extra HP or Torque...

Haha! That's exactly what I thought as I tried the SR/F in 2019: "Too much power for me!", and I kind of stuck with that thought for a few more weeks.

Nowadays when I overtake with a passenger behind me, it happens fairly often that I max out with the throttle, wishing for more power. And I am using a custom mode where speed, power and torque are all set at their maximum values.

Purchasing "Advance MSC" with 2022 models? I didn't know the Cypher Store had become so "refined". Zero must have hired quite a few more in its marketing department since the early days.

Hi. Finally, did you installed the performance boost on your SR ? I'm thinking about doing it on mine...  ::)

I haven't done the performance boost yet. I'm prioritizing upgrading the charger first so I can spend less time charging at my stops.

The performance boost is a pricey upgrade, and I don't push my bike much. The Advanced Stability Control is still attractive for my peace of mind though.

Hi,
Could you tell me more about your charger upgrade ? Will you install a power tank or will you change the 3kw charger for a 6kw charger like the one on se SR/F 2023 ?

The local dealer said that they spoke to Zero and confirmed that for the MY2022 SR, a second 3 kw charger would not be possible. Thus, I'm installing the 6 kw charge tank to increase my total charging capability to 9 kw. When I was reading some material from Zero on the SR, they alluded to an upgrade from 3kw to 9kw. I suspect that either the wiring harness in the bike only has 2 plugs for chargers (1 for the 3 kw and 1 for the 6 kw) or that there is no mounting bracket for the 2nd 3 kw charger, or both.

This isn't ideal from a cost perspective ($1k more for the 6 kw charge tank), however I'll be able to take advantage of the new J1772 plugs in California that provide > 6.49 kw of power.

There will be many places where you can get the full 9KW charging. Such as here. (https://www.plugshare.com/location/44582)  Also when you use a Tesla-Tap (but I noticed the 14KW Destination Charge Stations often drop out after every five to ten minutes when a Tesla-Tap is used--so you must keep an eye on those). Also, there are many free 9.6 KW J-plugs such as this one (https://www.plugshare.com/location/119255).

It's a single plug. And keep in mind you will almost entirely fill the tank pocket with the Rapid Charge module.

Wow! I wasn't aware that we could use the Tesla Destination network. Is that for all locations in the US? All I need is the Tesla-Tap and the the Tesla App?

The Tesla app can be used to find destination chargers, but they are actually just dumb EVSE. They work the same as any EVSE and aren't networked in any way as far as I know. You need only the TeslaTap to convert to the J-1772 (or Type 2 if you are in the EU).

I have heard reports of networked Destination stations that actually have billing in parts of LA. Haven't seen them personally, though.

Hi. I've just upgrade my 2022 SR with the performance Boost but I can't really know if the Bosch MSC is installed... For the speed, it's easy to know and it's ok, but for the Bosch MSC this is an other storie... And on the ZERO App the angles of inclination remain to 0°... Is anybody can tell me how to be sure that the Bosch MSC is installed ?

You should probably ask Zero Customer Support that question. If you already have, what was the answer?
