Nice bike and great price! Curious how are the Continental Road Attack 3 GT tires? I'm curious to try it out myself..

Thanks! I love them. I had RA3 non-GT’s on my 2011 Multistrada so I already knew they were tied for my favorite sport touring tires with the Michelin Road tires.

I hope not! I'll be on a gasser for the next one though. It's a KTM-orange 2016 Kawasaki Versys 650. If you ride yours we'll be twins!
I adore the SS9 and wish I didn't have to sell it, but now that the novelty of owning an Energica has worn off, I had to look at the fact that everywhere I ride is farther than the ~60-mile highway range. Since I can't afford an Experia or 21.5 kWh SS9, I decided to go back to gas for 2-3 years and then jump back in.
To get as close to the hassle-free and clutch-free electric experience as possible, I chose a bike that can take a Rekluse auto clutch and a Healtech Quickshifter Easy. It won't quite be the same, certainly not in terms of power and torque, but the Versys is a great bike too. Flickable yet stable, reliable, plenty of storage, surprisingly peppy for a 650, inexpensive, good MPG, comfortable seat, etc.

I find my Versys 650 rather gutless compared to my 1971 BMW R75/5. Extremely gutless compared to any of my electrics. But it's a fun light bike and will still get me anywhere.
I don't see why a SS9- would be an issue in most of CA where there are countless places to charge up. Even here in NV, most of my trips on my SS9- are around 100 miles or so at mostly freeway speeds that require a charge. In fact, just yesterday I went on a small group ride that knew I would have to recharge up for 20 minutes at Silver Springs. (https://www.plugshare.com/location/311104) The other two were ICE bikes (BMWs). Wasn't an issue at all. Just a nice BS break at the halfway point. Went to Fernly to Hwy 50 to Dayton for lunch and then over to Virgina City on Hwy 341. And then back here, which is around 100 miles total trip.
Every time I take out my SS9- out I need a charge stop. I cannot think of a ride yet where I have not needed a charge stop as most of my SS9- rides are around 100 miles, a few close to 300 miles. I usually take my SS9- between here and Auburn, which is 99 miles. A free DC CCS fast charge at the Donner Summit Rest (https://www.plugshare.com/location/303849) Area, the perfect place for a stop on that trip, right at the summit and halfway. Charge station almost every exit from Truckee to Auburn, but I rarely use those, except when east bound where I use the CCS at Cisco Grove. That is because the east bound free CCS charger at the Summit has been broken for around a year. It's a Cal-Trans charger.
I normally keep my Kaw Verseys in Auburn this time of year, so yeah, a ride on that will work too. It's getting cold here in Reno, so I want to get my Triumph Trophy SE back here to Reno after my next trip to Auburn, CA. That is my best bike for cold weather.

I've been finding that having to stop to charge all the time just wasn't working out for me, unfortunately. If I had more free time to enjoy the ride, then it wouldn't be an issue, but not when I just wanted to get from A to B as quickly as possible.
Yes, any normal 650 is going to feel gutless compared to an Energica or even a Zero. I knew that going in. I was surprised at how quick the Kawi was given my low expectations, though.

Being retired, I am almost never in a hurry and I enjoy the charge breaks every 50 miles or so. So I guess that is the main difference.

Yep, I need to ride mine soon, it's been a while since I used it, but I just put a new battery in it.
I am back in Auburn. I rode my Yamaha Venture here today. I expect to be here for a while with a lot of free time.
So if you can find the time for a ride, please let me know. I know plenty of nice places to ride in this area, but I am open for anything.

Damn few DC fast chargers around me. But lots of Tesla one's can it be charged somehow from them?
-
Right now, I don’t think so.
It can be charged from a L2 Tesla Destination Charger with an adapter, but not at the full DCFC speed. Tesla was forced to convert their stations to CCS in the Netherlands and some people think that might happen here in the next few years, especially if the company moves toward a model of chargers as a revenue source rather than just an incentive for people to buy Teslas.

I'm in Mendocino Co. Potter Valley, near Ukiah where there are 2 CCS, they seem to be the only ones in the county. I love the ride to the coast but no CCS there, ICE trip only. Tesla chargers everywhere, 98% unused.

Sometimes there are no mention of existing chargers on Plugshare. I added several there myself. Such as the CCS and J-plug at Silver Springs, NV. I found that one myself and there was no mention on Plugshare, so I added it there myself. I did the same for a 120 VAC outlet in Organ Pipe Cactus Nat'l Mon in AZ since that was the only electricity around for miles on the USA side of the border.
So always be looking. Plugshare get its info. form us members. Sometimes the chargers are in and working even before the "coming soon" which seems to sometimes mean it's never coming. I have also asked to have a few removed, as some were "coming soon" for more than 3 years with no construction even started.
I hear Tesla Superchargers will soon be open to all and by then, they will have a Telsa-Supercharger to CCS adapter. But I have no idea how "soon "that is. I know the Tesla app already has a selection for "Charge my non-Telsa". I need to update my Tesla app, I almost never use it (I have the Tesla Fob and the card as a backup). I will use it a lot after that happens. I rarely chrge my Tela on the road. Three times since new in 2018. But I recharge my Energica on the road almost every trip I take on it. I have done a few 300-mile rides on my SS9-.
But I have noticed myself that there are Tesla Superchargers at prime locations where there is nothing else at all, such as at Lake Topaz, NV. A very important location. Having no CCS near there is the only reason I cannot ride my Energica to Bridgeport from Reno.
People may want to download the Tesla App and look for "charge my non-Telsa". I need to update mine too. In fact, I will do that in a few minutes after I post this.

Yes I did a road trip a year ago around that area on my SR/F. Out of curiosity i was looking at all the type of chargers over there and its dominated by ~6kW and HPWC tesla destination L2's. Any of the SR/* Zero's with a chargetank would be better bikes for that area. Also, all those twisties over there make for a great ride!

You can also check on all the official apps of ChargePoint, EvGo etc. I guess those should atleast be up to date..

Thanks for that link Don! I would buy this SS9 if that adaptor was available now (and affordable, it looks scary pricy!). My only reservation is it being nearly 100 pounds heavier and just a slightly larger battery. Maybe I should consider a charge tank if I can find a deal. I'm 20 mi. to town just to get to my closest charger.
If I could swing the SS9 I would then see if I could get $5k for my '13 12.5kW in primo condition. I just might get the wife to swallow this.
-
Sure, just let me know if you can swing it.
The weight doesn't matter that much for efficiency except at city speeds. It's the aerodynamics that make the difference, which is relatively small between the two. I used to get 140-160 Wh/mi on my Zero SR with the giant CalSci windscreen in the Sac area and now I get 160-190 on the SS9. I'll also note that my efficiency up here has been terrible compared to the Bay Area, where I used to get 100-130 on the Zero from SF to San Jose and back.
The difference is that I would burn every last Joule on the Zero to avoid a charging stop that would take eons, whereas on the Energica I tend to stop when I get to 20% SoC because it only takes 5 minutes of charging time to get back up above 50%. Less relevant for your case, of course, but maybe not in the near future.

If you can charge at home, you want your road charge stations to be around fifty miles away from home.
Chargers close to home are useless. There are many chargers right here in Auburn. I have never used any of them. Too close to home to be useful.
You won't notice the weight. My SS9- is my favorite bike to ride of my ten, for most of my rides. Handles well even at very slow city speeds.
If you drop it, then you will probably notice the weight! Other than that, it's not much of an issue.
I have the charge tank on my Zero SR. It makes it top heavy, but I normally do not find that to be an issue expect for the one time I dropped the bike right at my driveway. I had to use a hydraulic lift to get it back up. See here. (https://www.electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=9964.msg89358#msg89358)

I once dropped by 2018S with PT also. Fortunately ::) it was blocking a travel lane in a city and the person behind me came over to help me pick it up so they they could get me out of the way. ;D When the bike dropped it broke off the right side rider's foot peg, that was when I discovered that the passenger peg was a direct replacement for that part.

I bet that is going to help Tesla sell more of their cars, as well as making better use of all of the chargers that they have installed all across the country..

Tesla needs NO help selling their cars. They cannot keep up with demand as it is. I assumed we all knew that here, See here. (https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/11/03/teslas-demand-is-through-the-roof/)
While that article is a year old, they now have even a longer wait. They are getting more & more behind. And from a company that has never advertised anywhere.
Perhaps this is why. (https://insideevs.com/features/403607/consumer-reports-tesla-highest-satisfaction-rate/)

I saw that awhile back, but fear it is a long way off. I can only charge at L1 as I'm off grid with somewhat limited power available. It typically takes 2 days to charge my 12.5 batt. On a good day (full sun and no need for AC) I'll have about 7kWh of surplus power to tap. And then I'm over 50 miles to a CCS charger. It is not impossible to make it work with the SS9 but a challenge and hassle.

If the bike is still available after the summer then I'll take you up on that. I'd rather two Energicas over an Energica and a Leaf. I'm looking into what to replace my Honda CB1100 with after my friend uses it on the road trip we're going on this summer.
-

Haha that’s what it feels like to me too, but the price is whatever the market will pay! I wish I could just hang onto it, but it doesn’t make sense to have 2 bikes right now.

Don't you know the formula for how many bikes we should have? It's "X+1" where "X" represents the number of bikes we currently have.
So I should have a dozen bikes, but I only have 11.

I thought those were mostly your past bikes this whole time! Do you keep them in an airplane hanger of some sort?

I own two houses and each have a three-car garage. I keep half my bikes here and the other half at my Reno house.
They all run like new. A lot better than new in the case of the 1971 BMW R75/5 (performance mods).
It's a nice electric ride between the houses when the weather is nice.

I have a friend who owns 23 motorcycles, most of which he stores in a rented commercial unit, a couple in his airplane hanger and four in his garage. None are EVs. I can't even imagine how much work it take be to service and maintain that many vehicles - to say nothing of also doing the same to an airplane. Up until last year he also owned a sailboat, but he finally sold that as it was becoming a struggle to keep up. ::)

Is the 60-90 mile range with or without the side cases? I'm trying to see the feasibility of using this bike on my trip vs the Honda. What is the wh/mi on flat roads on 30,40,50,55,60,65mph? I'm doing a bunch of research on the longer routes to see if I could make it work on the longer trips between waypoints with some as long as about 80mi.
Edit: Nevermind, after viewing and researching my possibilities for the trip, managing two charging timelines and finding two available and working chargers is more than what I'm prepared for. I'd still like to buy the bike after my trip, and sell my Honda. Of course given you haven't sold it yet.
-
Bought it, very happy with the bike. Thanks @flynnstig82r!

I am happy with my SS9- also. The shorter range will soon not be much of an issue as more charge stations are built. And hopefully, repaired here in NV. I could go farther last year than this year because several charge stations I need have been broken for around a year now, such as the CCS in Fallon, NV and in Hawthorne, NV.
