Title: Electric Motors And Gearing - An argument for gearing from Jim Turner
Post by: skadamo on February 06, 2010, 02:30:06 AM
@optibiker (http://twitter.com/optibiker) The general consensus in the electric motorcycle world is gearing is not worth the complexity and weight because electric motors power curve is very flat. If you google it you will see the discussion on many forums.

The inventor of the Optibike does not agree. Check out his thoughts in this video at around 4 minutes in...

How the Optibike MBB works (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QIumm1jU94#normal)

He mentions there is an optimum operation range where a motor is happy. Otherwise it is wasting energy in the form of heat production. Interesting.
