Title: What would you change on your zero Srf or Srs ?
Post by: Moto7575 on August 19, 2022, 01:06:23 PM
Overall i am super satisfied with this bike, but here is what i would change:
  - mode button position (you get used to it, but too close tonturn signal)
  - possibility to define what happens when you reach the last kwh (slowing the bike / turning the dash bord red,..)
  - more powerful usb port (i cant fast charge my galaxy note)
  - possibility to define low speed torque (it seems to be reduced to avoid adherence issues, but dragster option would be cool and allow for stickier tires)
  - faster startup and charging delay (ok it only takes 4 seconds but when you are trying to understand if a station can charge or not, immediate feedback helps)
  - smoother shock absorber (maybe mine are not correctly tuned?)
  - pre-equipement for audio in the trunk (quite easy to add a sound system)

I am wondering if adding a windshield improves the range - i have read people mentionning 10% when the specs for srs and srf are the same, and i doubt an adaptable shield can be as efficient as srs' full fairing. Unless zero's specs for srs users are underestimated and srs users beat the officiel range this is an enigma for me.

I agree with most of your list but would add cruise control button placement to things that could be better.  Although, this improves it significantly:

Agree ! Maybe the placement would be easier on the other side - obvisouly on the highway you need to keep your hand on the throttle...
Maybe this device would help : https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:895432

There is a hazard warning light button tucked away on the back of the LHS switchgear. Strikes me that a tiny software update would swap this with the uselessly located cruise control button on the right. Problem solved! And then I'd make it so nudging the mode switch while CC was activated adjusted speed by 1mph either way.

Otherwise, I'd change all the switchgear for something that looked and felt a bit more premium, and use the BMW wheel for scrolling around in menus.

The dash itself needs to operate at at least 4x its current framerate to feel good. And I'd replace it with one at least 50% larger and 4x the resolution.

I'd rewrite the dash firmware to be vastly more slick, along the lines of BMW.

I'd do something with the stacked headlight on the SR/F so that they could be independently adjusted up and down.

I'd widen the belt 50% and add some more serious protection from debris.

I'd make the back brake actually work (I mean seriously... it's got to be an MOT fail???)

I'd have a slightly larger dead zone on the throttle close so that it could actually interpolate up to the specified max regen setting from 0%.

I'd increase the suspension travel 2cm and decrease the spring rate.

I'd use the Zero app, after having thrown out all the existing code of course, to design custom throttle and traction maps, not just mere modes.

Cas :)

I'd make the neutral point regen and brake more progressive - today's "all of nothing mode" feels like a kick when it starts working.

- activate brake light while regenerating,
- reprogram cruise control so it actually maintains the set speed,
- repurpose mode switch while in cruise control so that a tap to the left (right) decreses (increases) speed by one kph or mph, depending on the units used,
- add a parking brake,
- use LED turn signals instead of incandescent bulbs.
- implement a storage mode that turns everything off. The current storage mode is a joke. When I store the bike at 80% some time in November the SoC will go all the way to empty while the temperatures are below freezing so I can't even charge. There are of course workarounds, but c'mon, not everybody lives in SoCal.

Pretty Comprehensive list.  And oh, somebody come up with a fairing for high speed roads.
