CPF50 Charging Station
Access Control: Control who can use your charging stations. Assign RFID cards to vehicles or drivers and allow only those approved vehicles or drivers to charge at your stations.
The article you linked is about stuff as noted that is of no use for those who already have an EV and are traveling through.

In fairness, if people can charge their cars at home, they're less likely to be using the public charging stations a traveler would want to use, no?

Many more useless charge stations are coming.
Perhaps useless to you or anyone else that doesn’t live at these locations but that’s not the intent.

The intent is apparently to create an incentive for apartment and condo owners in large cities to get rid of their ICE vehicles and to buy EVs. But that could also make it less likely that they will travel by public mass transit, which runs counter to other government programs. It is all about politics, of course. But if and when they do proceed with installing "useless charging stations" on private property, I hope whomever sets up the charging system also makes it clear who owns them and who is responsible for operating and maintaining them.
And then you have the big problem that every multi-family facility is different and it will require a huge amount of time and effort to try to decide where to install one or more charging stations within each individual property, how to get power to it (older complexes might need an electrical service upgrade) and who gets their assigned parking space taken away so that an EV owner can use it to recharge their vehicle. It is definitely not going to be "one size fits all" and will be such a headache for government and industry regulators that they will likely throw in the towel not long after starting up the program.
BTW, the city that I used to work for, has planning laws that restrict new condo or apartment developments from building much in the way of on-site parking areas, especially if the facility was located within walking distance of a bus, train or mass transit stop. The planners really believe that no one should own a car and should walk, bicycle or take mass transit to work, when shopping at Costco, or to their favorite vacation spot. ::)

I dont understand how this can be useless. I live in a condo and our condo complex has no place to charge (no wall outlets in the parking space either). This means I have to go plug my car in to a charger thats 2-3 blocks away and wont be able to charge overnight either (for safety reasons). Or I have to drive a couple miles away and supercharge it having to wait for about 40 mins or so (not really as convenient as filling gas).
I would absolutely love to have chargers within our condo complex.
I still feel this could encourage people living in apartments and condo to buy more EVs.
Not all chargers need to be able to cater to people on road trips. Moreover why would people traveling 100s of miles need L2 chargers? Fixing the unreliability problems with the DC chargers should be prioritized rather than adding more.
Also would love the CPF50 stations as they can give out upto 12kW! I can use it to charge my Zero at 9kW.

I tried. No matter what I did, it came out like that. Even after I put it in Notepad and copied it back.
In most cases I can do something. In that case, nothing worked and I have no idea why.
But I figured it could be read as is. No doubt it's a forum bug, but why only with my account? On a dozen difference computers from different locations.

I only mean useless to travelers. Of course, they are useful to people who live there and have no other place to charge. But even they may want to go to someplace that has no charging around.
My big complaint is we do not have enough charge stations away from populated areas, and that is especially true for electric motorcycles. And many CCS stations that are far from others stay broken for many months.
Installing more WORKING charge stations in the middle of nowhere will benefit all EV owners. Especially for us EV motorcycle riders.

They would benefit those who travel beyond the range of their vehicle, most people don't. Having chargers available at people's place of living means owning an electric vehicle is actually a viable option for them.

I totally agree, of course. And it would also be good if they have EV visitors. I hear the number one reason for people to give up on EVs is they cannot charge at home.
I was just upset when I saw the title of the article and then read it and discovered they will not do me any good! >:( But good for them!

It doesn't. Why should it? The vast majority of driving is done within 50 miles of home, and the vast majority of EV charging is done overnight at home. Which means that if you don't have a charger available to you overnight at home, an EV is impractical to impossible. Providing EV chargers at apartments/condos is way more important to EV adoption than high speed chargers that you only need on road trips.

My typical motorcycle ride is a lot longer than that 50 miles. How do I go from Reno to Bridgeport, CA or from Reno to Susanville on my 2017 Zero SR with power tank? I have 8KW of charging, but where is the 240 VAC that I can use to get to such places?
And I don't wanna stay overnight at an RV park.

You are in the minority, and electric vehicles will not be ideal or even viable for every person in every situation. Over time they will become more viable but you can't expect them to get better for the minority before the majority.
