Title: How's the Damon factory coming along?
Post by: NEW2elec on May 21, 2022, 08:14:38 PM
Nicely.   8)

Well the link keeps dying.  You can go to their IG page under Plant and see it.

Hey how about a video instead.  Always better.  From the Damon YT channel:

The latest email to potential purchasers from DamienTM is entitled 'Manufacturing Plant Update' and, in part, reads:

With the production plant's progress, we're on track to begin deliveries next year. However, our 2023 volume is already sold out and the list continues to grow!
Don't wait even longer to get your bike - reserve now for 2024 delivery.

I find it hard to believe their 2023 volume is sold out - unless it's a teeny tiny volume. Have they defined their target volume for 2023?

Meanwhile, Energica pops out another usable model, and by 2024 they'll have another two years of manufacturing knowledge over DamienTM - shiny factory or not.

It feels like a weird brand-damaging way to sell. Belief can only be suspended for so long.

This is odd... the other day while heading out east on the Long Island Expressway in the HOV lane, I saw a bike heading toward me on the westbound side also in the HOV lane.  I didn't see the entire bike, just the front fairing... but it sure looked like all of the promotional images I've seen of the Damon.  Wonder what the story is?  I'm thinking someone just liked the look and had a fairing built for an ICE bike to match but I could be wrong...

Richtea there are around 2000 bike reservations at this point.  Maybe more with the Hyperfighter model being included.
They feel they have their supply chain set up well enough to handle those orders.
When HD has to shut down production then you know supply chain issues aren't an isolated issue with one company.

The new Energica is nice and a niche of a practical bike that they haven't really had.  Still need to see the price.  We'll have to see if most of the Energica production is moved out of their small expensive factory in Italy and into New Jersey or not.

As for Damon's branding, it's really very simple.
If they meet their design goals it will be the best electric bike you can buy.
Always a niche for the best.

JamieC which one did it look like?  The white bike with the black Ds?
They had demonstration rides (Damon staff riding the bike for others to see) in Miami and they were going to hit a few more east coast spots before heading west.

This particular bike appeared to be primarily gold, from the quick look I saw.  Since it was on a divided highway there was no way I could turn around in time to get a better look.

Just watch the video.

second 3 to 5 you can see they have a concrete pumping truck putting in the concrete floor for the far half.

At second 24 what is being deposited on the ground in the near section?

By second 29 it looks like they might have chopped some of the far section open in the nearer part of that pour.

At the very end it is obvious there is a lot of re bar in that slab, not some welded wire mesh that comes in rolls.

I have publically on here wondered how far above sea level this building is.
What do you think is there some system to vent radon gas?

Exactly what entity owns this piece of real estate is another question that has sort of been posed on internet forums.
