Title: Display price plus discount on separate paperwork?
Post by: Atyp on April 21, 2022, 09:24:50 PM
Hi, I'm a little trusting of other people but I had an experience that I would like some input on.

I recently purchased an Energica. While at the dealership, the Energica rep spoke with the salesman on the phone and offered a $500 discount on my motorcycle. The dealer agreed, hung up, and said, "we don't do discounts." I didn't really care because I wasn't expecting a discount anyway.

The dealer asked me to write a check for $500 above the price on the signed sales receipt, wrote me a check for $500, and gave me a less official document showing the $500 was for the Energica discount.

What exactly is going on there?

So the rep wanted the dealer to give you a $500 discount.  Expected the dealer to give you the discount.  Dealer (I guess) agreed to do it with the rep on the phone.  He took $500 more than your agreed on price so when he wrote you a $500 check to show the rep it was a lie because he charged you full price?

Was it an older model or used?

Yes, it was a floor model with 510 miles, and i also dropped it. There was a small amount of damage to some plastic. The rep said to give the discount for the repair, which was nice but I wasn't expecting it. Later I asked for the repair, and the salesman said when I dropped the bike, I bent the frame and quoted a very high repair price. I have since hopefully set that straight but I am concerned about the other activities and the length of time it takes to replace plastic.

Ahh ok extenuating circumstances.
I remember years ago taking a Zero SR for a test ride and there was a lot of paperwork telling me basically I break it I bought it.

Hey things happen on a test ride but if the frame was bent any, it could make the plastics not fit right any more.  That could be part of your delay.

Good luck with it.  I can't say what the dealers actions were meant to be with that extra info though.

I think I know what you're saying, and I wanted to buy the motorcycle. I'm a bit of an electric vehicle collector, and will also be buying another electric motorcycle tomorrow. I'm addicted to torque. I was worried about the months long wait times I usually hear about. I have no complaint about the fact that this gorgeous vehicle belongs to me. Just the manner in which the discount was performed.
