Hi all,
Just ordered a brand new Energica Essesse 9+. I also ordered the domestic charging cable. In Norway we have TT, IT and TN electric grids (yes, three different types, depending on where you are in the country). Does anybody know wether the onboard charger had any preferance ? I ask, because for instanse the car Renault Zoe could only charge on TN electrical grid.... not TT or IT (most usual in Norway).
Anye lectricians know ? :-)

I don't know why it wouldn't. As long as you have an EVSE that is performing the proper handshake the onboard charger doesn't care who makes the AC power. As long as it's between 100-240vac how would it know?

Yeah, SHOULD... however, it is not the charging cable that is the problem. Let me explain with the Renault Zoe as an example. This car could only charge on TN networks. In Norway this is quite rare. That meant that if you tried to plug the Renault Zoe into the wall socket in most parts of Norway (using the domestic charging cable), the onboard charger would not charge the car..... it needed the more rare TN net to charge. Or you had to have a transformator between the electrical grid and the car.
Since IT net is not very common, except in Norway and Albania, I was wondering if the onboard charger in the Energica bikes is picky about the electrical grid supplying the AC. It is a difference between TN, IT and TT, even though you get AC from all three. So yes, the onboard charger will notice, even though it is AC.
Jut to be clear: I am not asking about the DC charging. I am asking about the AC charging, were the onboard charger in the bike is used. In Norway IT network is the usual network in your wall socket, while in Europe it is TN which rules. The question is, will the onboard charger accept both IT and TN electrical networks ? And yes, again, it can notice. AC is not AC, it turns out.
Energica has so far not answered my questions.

I don't see how the AC charger in the vehicle can be picky, but some of the charge stations could be. I connected my external chargers to a J-1772 when I was in Florida (https://www.plugshare.com/location/6773) (read my check-in)and it instantly knew I was NOT communicating with the pilot signal and the charge station shut down. It said the problem on the screen. Something I have never seen anywhere else.

The problem is the earthing system; The vehicle might expect a certain impendance between the earthing and the poles, and in some cases like TT one of the poles is directly connected to earth causing a short from the charger's point-of-view.
Belgium uses the same system on some grids, causing problems charging vehicles like a Tesla and in that case you indeed need a galvanic seperation transformer to physically disconnect the earth from 1 of the poles to accomodate a 'floating voltage' referenced from ground. Bit technical, sorry.
I believe there are charging solutions for that, you just need to find one to suit your needs. I believe a 'Juice box' has the necessary electronics on board to accomodate every possible voltage/ground configuration but you'd have to check.

Yeah, thanx for answer. I decided to take into the contract that the bike will charge at both TN and IT networks (TT are very rare in Norway in domestic use anyway). The seller is 90% sure TN and IT is no problem.

On juice-world dot com they have the docs for the juice booster, which is a rather expensive portable charger but it is capable of much more than just the single-phase charging of the Energica. This might suit your needs. At least you could contact them to see if it works ;)

Det fine med Energica er at du kan ha en veggboks på samme måte som vanlig elbil. Energica bruker bare én-fase AC lading, så det blir ikke noe forskjell om du har TN eller IT. TT nett har jeg ikke noe erfaring med, så der skal jeg ikke si noe. Jeg har forøvrig ikke schuko-laderen til Energica, fordi jeg installerte veggbokser og jeg har en til bilen allerede.
Kanskje vi ses på veien en dag?

Just got confirmation from Energica importer that the onboard AC charger will work on both IT and TT network. As Norway is about the only country in Europe with IT network, this was important for me to know.
So, problem solved.

Vi har fått dette sjekket. Laderen virker på TT nett. Da virker den også (ifølge min venn elektroingeniøren) også på IT nett. Da er jeg berget. Jeg er avhengig av at jeg til tider kan plugge sykkelen i veggen (feks på besøk hos foreldre som bor langt fra ladestasjoner), eller på tur. Får ladeboks i garasje (type 2).
Jeg får sykkelen i juni, så nå er det bare å vente.

IT network is not a problem for the onboard charger. The great thing about Energica is that you can have a wall box in the same way as a regular electric car. Energica only uses single-phase AC charging, so it makes no difference whether you have TN or IT. I have no experience with TT nett, so I will not say anything there. By the way, I do not have the schuko charger for Energica, because I installed wall boxes and I already have one for the car. Maybe see you on the road one day? / Yngve

Level two=3KW with 240 VAC. 3,000 Watts divided by 240V=12.5 amps.
Level one=1.5KW with 120 VAC. 1500 watts divided by 120V=also 12.5 amps.
