Hello Everyone,
On 10/23 I put my deposit down on a brand new Zero S 2021, it was supposed to be delivered on 10/27 however when the dealer put the fuse in to start the PDI it would not take a charge. Zero had them send over the BMS after some troubleshooting and determined a new battery was needed and is now working on getting one shipped to North East Ohio where I live. I am a little disappointed that a brand new bike has been in the shop for almost two weeks already and I haven't even been able to use it a single day but I suppose it could happen with any vehicle, electric or otherwise.
My dealer tells me that Zero may take a while to ship the battery as they can't just send it UPS because its Lithium ION and needs some kind of special transportation? My question is: If this repair drags on too much longer its going to be too cold in Ohio for me to be able to ride the bike to drop the SOC to the 60% Zero recommends for winter storage. Is there a way to drop the charge without having to ride it in freezing weather?
P.S. Yes, I know people ride in the winter, I don't have any interest in winter riding and also don't have winter riding gear and don't really want to buy it solely so I can get the motorcycle down to an acceptable level to go into storage.

leave the key on for a couple of days and nights. The lights should drain it down a bit. I wouldn't worry much about being a little above at 60% SOC, just don't let it get much lower.

Pizza oven or electric chainsaw do spring forth into the mind; it's a bit of the wild history of people doing stupid things with Zero motorcycle bikes.
The "high voltage" tester official apparatus used by dealers (as of some years ago... is this still true?) is an incandescent household lightbulb for 120Vac plugged into the AUX charging port. It'd be a simpler matter though to find someone willing to ride your bike for a day in the winter, add their name onto your insurance policy, and get'r done.
If you intend to "leave the key in it" on be sure to have cooling fans aimed at the headlamp plastics they do tend to deform and soften if the headlamp is let run when not in motion.

If you leave the bike for 30 days without turning it on it will go into long term storage mode (unfortunately you can't do it manually) and drain the battery to 60%. In long term storage mode you can connect the charger and it will drain by about 1% per day and then when it gets to 30% it will charge back up to 60% and keep repeating this process. More info can be found in section 6.29 of the manual.

after my experience with this brand I would just request my deposit back and walk away.

My Zero's great but I agree - just take your deposit back, wait a bit, and order a different bike, maybe from somewhere else.

Speaking of shipping Li batteries: Yesterday I received one of those home back-up lithium batteries devices that can substitute for a Gas generator for when the lights go out during the next storm or a scheduled Public Safety Power Shutoff ( ::) ). I bought the battery pack from Amazon. The battery arrived within a few days of my order. It arrived charged to 80% and was shipped via United Parcel Service. No problem! ;)

Bail on that defective ‘21 and get a fresh ‘22.
I suspect your ‘21 was sitting at the dealer all year, with an improperly stored battery.

The bike shuts off after an hour of inactivity, so you'd have to check on it every 59 minutes by engaging the kill switch and blipping the throttle. The bike won't do anything but it resets the 1 hour timer.

Interesting. I had no idea that there was a one-hour inactivity timer in Zeros.
Does Energica do that also?

They do something similar. I've not timed it. It might also be 1 hour. Dunno.

I don't recall what the kill switch does for the reset or not, but keeping the throttle open a bit was enough to defeat the timer (for 2016 DSR). The kickstand was down and interlock stock not modified so I would guess the kill switch being in disable position adds another bit of peace-of-mind if you are going to strap the throttle open a bit. I used a bit of velcro like one does to engage the front brake as a parking brake and just had the throttle open a bit in that configuration. Same caveat applies make sure the headlight gets additional cooling it tends to heat up enough not in motion to soften and deform the optical plastics.

Yeah, that saved my FX a few times when I forgot to turn off the key. When I came back, the lights were off and all the display segments were flashing.
