Title: Riders in Hawaii (Maui)
Post by: MichaelJ on May 29, 2021, 04:21:13 AM
Hi,

Assuming travel will be relatively safe again next year, planning for a vacation in Hawaii (Maui) with family members who are also motorcyclists.  Wondering if e-motorcycle rental is a thing over there so that we can all ride electric together.

Are you familiar with the e-motorcycling scene in Maui?  My online searches find at best e-bicycles, and at worst electric mobility scooters.  Aloha Motorsports says they have no plans to get Eagle Rider's stock of LiveWires or Zero SR/Ses.

For four-wheeled EVs, some mom-and-pop outfits rent out Nissan's LEAF, and Turo offers some LEAFs, Bolts, and Teslas.

Any advice?

Thanks,
Michael

I remember reading that Zero landed a dealer on Oahu, but I haven't heard anything about Maui.  It might be unlikely for a rental company to take on a brand that can't be serviced.

When you go, stop by Island Cream Co in Lahaina.  'Best ice cream I've had in my life.

Hello Valnar,

thank you very much for your reply.  I'm sorry to hear that EV tourism isn't much of a thing there.  Seems like an ideal situation when an entire island is within range of a full battery, but I get your point about not taking service for granted.  I'll also reach out to local EV enthusiast groups for information.

Thanks also for the ice cream recommendation!  I'll probably be staying closer to Kihei, but ice cream seems like a great reward for visiting another town by e-moto or e-bicycle.  Do you recommend a specific flavor?  Looks like they have great shave ice, too.

Cheers,
Michael

No specific flavor.  Go with whatever your heart desires.

I remember talking to the owner years ago and he said most ice cream companies have one or two "bases" where all other flavors are derived.  He has eleven.
